Hunter Ray White
Hunter Ray White of Covington, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at the age of 24. Hunter was funny, outgoing, witty, and a beautiful person inside and out. He enjoyed being outdoors whether it was fishing, hunting, or traveling to the beach. Hunter was the life of the party everywhere that he went. In his spare time, he liked playing pool, video games and cheering on his favorite baseball teams – especially the Boston Red Sox and the Atlanta Braves. Hunter loved his family more than anything and shared a special bond with each of them. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, James N. White, Sr.; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Bell; uncles, James N. White, Jr., James Bell, Chuck Cartledge; and best friend, Camron Dennis.
Survivors include his parents, Stacey and Robyn White; brother and sister-in-law, Nick and Alisha White; sisters, Ashley White, Taylor White; paternal grandmother, Amenda White; maternal grandfather, Robert Bell; aunts and uncles, Bobby and Cindy Cartledge, Rick and Nora Cartledge, Robby and Christy Bell, David White, Tina and Terry Kinzalow, Tracy and Leigh White, Kenneth "Keybo" Rush; niece, Anniston Stratton; nephew, Anderson Stratton; as well as several cousins, extended family and friends.
A Funeral Service for Hunter will be announced at a later date. The family are welcoming guests at their home.
Quinlan Gerald (Jeri) Kirkus
Quinlan Gerald (Jeri) Kirkus went to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, November 28, 2019, at the age of 80. She was born November 18, 1939, in Newton County, to Mr. Dilmus Thomas Hay and Mrs. Inez Bailey Hay. Mrs. Kirkus graduated from Rockdale County High School June 3, 1958, and married Embry Joseph ten days later on June 13. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church since 1958.
Mrs. Kirkus and her husband, Embry, began their life together by moving to Ft. Laurderdale, Florida. Seven months later they moved back to Conyers where her husband joined the Army for two years, and she started working for the local Chevrolet dealer. In July of 1961, she gave birth to their only son, Quinlan Joseph Kirkus. After the birth of her son, she returned to work in 1965 and began working the Selective Service Board in Conyers. In 1973, Mrs. Kirkus then started a new job for the CDC in Atlanta, where she worked for four years before working at the United States Veterinary Service in Conyers, where she retired in March of 1991.
Mrs. Kirkus was a lady of many talents. She loved to sew for herself and many others, made cakes for parties and weddings, catering and making flower arrangements. Mrs. Kirkus would cut hair for shut-ins at church, but most of all she loved to travel, shop and eat.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dilmus Thomas and Inez Bailey Hay. Survivors include her husband, Embry Joseph Kirkus; son, Quinlan Joseph Kirkus (Susan); special cousin, Linda Wall and her husband, Dwight; as well as other family members.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Kirkus will be held Tuesday, December 3, 2019, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Lanes Collins and Pastor Frank Daws officiating. Interment will follow in Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, 699 American Legion Road NE, in Conyers. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, prior to her service, from 11:00 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memorial Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Alex Toro
Alex Toro of Oxford, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019, at the age of 60. Mr. Toro grew up in New York before moving to Atlanta in 1983. He enjoyed taking on projects whether it was working on cars or putting things together. In Addition, Mr. Toro was a "foodie", liked European cars, listening to classic rock music and enjoyed teaching his sons how to body surf at the beach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfredo and Sonia Toro; brother, Rodrigo Toro.
Survivors include his sons, Justin Toro, Evan Toro; Daughter-in-law, Janet Toro; grandchild, Miles Toro, and mother of his children, Elaine Nolley.
A Visitation for Mr. Toro will be held Wednesday, December 4, 2019, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington.

Shirley Kennedy-Jones, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at 65 years of age. Born April 13, 1954, in Monticello, Georgia, Shirley was raised in Shady Dale and was a graduate of Monticello High School. She ambitiously pursued her dreams and furthered her education at various institutes of education: DeKalb Technical College, acquiring her certificate as an EMT; The Travel Institute, becoming a destination specialist, and Argosy University, earning a bachelor's degree in psychology. Following her passion for helping others and her desire to serve her community, Shirley worked as an EMT with Newton Medical Center, in Covington, for 28 plus years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Newton Jones; parents, Marvin Moye and Annie Mae (Batchelor) Kennedy; and sister, Nancy McMichael.
Left to remember her fondly and with great love, her sister and brothers-in-law, Janice (Jeffery) Brooks of Newborn, Alvin McMichael; brother, Tullie (T.J.) Kennedy, both of Shady Dale; nieces, Candice McMichael, Marsha (Tony) Cowan; nephews, Jacob Brooks, Jeremy Brooks, Justin Kennedy, James McMichael, Mike (Barbara) Jones, Mark (Angela) Jones; step-daughters, Barbara Overby, Rita Jones; step-grandchildren, Buffy Lanier, Nicole Williams, Herman Overby, Jennifer Gay, Jacqueline Lambert; fifteen step-great-grandchildren; as well as her companion and very close friend, Ralph Jones.

Janice Ellis
Janice Ellis of Oxford, passed away November 28, 2019, at the age of 74. A kindhearted and caregiver to many, Mrs. Ellis was known as "Mama Janice" to many. In her spare time, she enjoyed camping with her loved ones. Mrs. Ellis loved her family, church family and the children she kept throughout the years dearly and will be miss be all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lacy Ellis; parents, Grover Cleveland "Snooks" and Mureen Young; sister, Joyce Morton.

obit for Amy Dimsdale
Amy Dimsdale, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 49 years of age. After graduating Newton County High School, Amy's ambition and drive led her to Artistic Beauty College, in Conyers, where she explored her creative side. To allow for various opportunities in the work force, she then attended classes at DeKalb Tech. Amy was outgoing and social, loved the beach and was a passionate supporter of the Georgia Bulldogs.
Those who will lovingly and fondly remember Amy are her devoted husband of 24 years, Chris Dimsdale; daughter, Savannah Dimsdale; parents, Gene and Janey Hooper; brother, Darrell Hooper; mother-in-law, Kathy Dimsdale; brother-in-law, Warren Dimsdale and his wife, Stahr; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bill Weeks of Social Circle, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at the age of 79. Mr. Weeks was a member of the Elks Lodge for over 40 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed canning and preserving vegetables from his garden. Mr. Weeks had a passion for cars, whether it was working on antique cars or watching his favorite NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Edgar and Mary Clemons (Bailey) Weeks; sister, Mary E. Cowan; brother, Donald Frye.

Sandra Reid, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at 61 years of age. To those closest to Sandra, she was known for having a spirited demeanor and a penchant for keeping her things in order. Going out for a meal was how she liked to socialize with family. It was a time for fellowship and getting caught-up on the latest news. Sandra also enjoyed relaxing at home while watching old TV shows - her two favorites, "I Love Lucy" and "The Andy Griffith Show". She was preceded in death by her parents, George Thomas and Flora Mae Reid; sisters, Geneva Davis, Shirley Sharpton; brothers, Tom Reid, Jerry Reid, Allen Reid, Daniel Reid; as well as sisters-in-law, Ann Reid, Terry Reid.

William B. Chappell
William B. Chappell of Covington, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at the age of 81. Mr. Chappell was a believer of Christ and an honorable man - always keeping his word. He enjoyed making people laugh, listening to Gospel music, reading and was a huge fan of sports, especially the Braves and the Falcons. Mr. Chappell loved his family and cat, Sparky, dearly and will be missed by all those who knew him.

Holly Berg Casey
Holly Berg Casey of Covington, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019, at the age of 76. Mrs. Casey enjoyed being outdoors and traveling to different countries. One of her early hobbies led her to meet her husband, Ed, which was racing Porsches, while living in Boston. Mrs. Casey also enjoyed showing Appaloosa and Quarter horses. Ed and Holly also enjoyed snow skiing and shared that passion with both of their daughters. She was a loving grandmother and shared a special bond with each of her grandchildren. Mrs. Casey was preceded in death by her husband, Ed Casey; parents, Quentin and Frances (Hitchcock) Berg; sisters, Shelly Berg, Rundi Riffle; and brother, Eric Berg.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Kari and Alan Whitaker, Shawna and Aaron DeMeyer; grandchildren, Sydney, Morgan, Greg, Jack; brothers and sisters-in-law, Owen and Patty Berg, Bruce and Catherine Berg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Horace Wayne Williams "Wig" of Covington, passed away Monday, November 25, 2019, at the age of 66. First and foremost, Mr. Williams was loved dearly by his friends and family. A longtime resident of Newton County, he was known for his unique sense of humor and his love for football – especially the Georgia Bulldogs. Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Evelyn (Strickland) Williams; baby brother, Melvin Williams.
Survivors include his sister, Lu Ann Tilson; brothers and sister-in-law, Barry and Karen Williams, Greg Williams; nieces, Dawn Price Reardon, Tera Voss; nephews, Joshua K. Jennings, John R. Tilson, Jr., Tyler Williams; 6 great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as several cousins.

Marcus (Mark) Hudson
Marcus "Mark" Hudson, of Rutledge, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2019, at 62 years of age. Mark had many interests and hobbies, most of which demonstrated his desire to be outside and working with his hands. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, and his passion for hunting crows earned him the nickname, "Crow Man". Mark liked to cook up a tasty meal, and he enjoyed gardening and woodworking. His most notable builds were old-school style rabbit traps and bird houses – things he perfected along the way. Mark's presence will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched, but perhaps none more than his wife, children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Nora (Almand) Hudson.
Those left to lovingly remember Mark are his adoring wife of 16 years, Janie Ruth Hudson; daughters and sons-in-law, Mandy and John David Tannehill, Christy and Sam Keller, Jennifer and Daniel Bruhmuller; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Elaine Owensby; grandchildren, Dylan, Kiersten, Jacob, Matthew, Maddie, Ella, Charlotte; sister, Martha Jane Hunter; brother, Robert Hudson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Rev. Mister Thomas J. Metzger of Mansfield, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019, at the age of 67.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Dolly (Finn) Metzger; sister, Rebecca Zimmer.

Willie Kirk Watkins, of Covington, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 87 years of age. Mr. Watkins honorably served his country in the United States Navy. A faithful member at The Church of Covington, he delighted in worshipping alongside his brother and sisters in Christ. After his retirement from Scientific Atlanta, Mr. Watkins pursued his passion for farming and raising cattle. His fondness for his animals was evident in the way he treated them like family. Mr. Watkins was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Pickett Watkins; parents, Willie Ralph and Clara (Kirk) Watkins; and sisters, Mary Faith Watkins Bryan, Opal Watkins Stokes, Daisy Watkins Lord Arnold.
Mr. Watkins will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law, Juanita Kitchens and her lifelong friend, James Hughes; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Sybil Sheppard
Sybil Sheppard, of Newborn, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019, at 80 years of age. Mrs. Sheppard was a longtime and faithful member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Stone Mountain. She was gifted with a bright mind and an inclination to work hard. Mrs. Sheppard was a member of both the National Honor Society and the Beta Club. She adored her family and was at her best when surrounded by loved ones, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren especially. Given a choice, Mrs. Sheppard's favorite spots to vacation were always near the water, whether it was camping at Lake Oconee and Lake Lanier or putting her toes in the sand at Panama City Beach. She was a passionate fan of the Atlanta Braves, always tuning in to watch them play, and she enjoyed listening to country music - her two favorite groups were Alabama and Moe Bandy.
Left to lovingly remember Mrs. Sheppard is her devoted husband of 62 years, Forrest E. Sheppard; daughters and sons-in-law, Denise and Keith Worn, Diane and Steve Seals; grandchildren, Travis and Cheralyn Worn, Stephanie and Jeremy Williams, Kayla Vining and fiancé, Logan Henry; great-grandchildren, Kendall Duke, Aubrie Cook, Ashtyn Williams, Alisyn Williams, Avery Worn; brother, Howard Creamer; sister-in-law, Edna Jean Baldwin; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Johnny Alan Dunn
WOW!! He was a wonderful father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend. With great sorrow, the family of Johnny Alan Dunn, announces his passing on November 16, 2019. Johnny was born in Atlanta, Georgia, December 3, 1952, to Helen and Barry Dunn. He grew up in Decatur, Georgia, where he played baseball and football at Midway Ballpark as well as Towers High School. He served in the Army as an MP at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, as well as in Seoul, Korea. After serving in the military, he moved to South Florida, started his family, and enjoyed a career in the elevator industry.
Johnny was full of life, never met a stranger and brought joy and love to all his family and friends. He made those around him laugh with his funny jokes. He loved talking about the JD Roy Band and asking everyone if they wanted to join for $5 and be the lead tambourine player.
He is survived by his daughters, Diana Dunn Westberry (Kevin), Lisa Dunn Crivelli (Mike), both of Tallahassee, FL, and Laura Lynn Dunn of St. Petersburg, FL; his mother, Helen Sewell Dunn; his sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Lee Durden; niece, Getra Sanders (Mark), all of Covington, GA; grandchildren, Reese, Alianna, Maci, Elliot Lynn and Connor. He is preceded in death by his younger brother, Dennis Wayne Dunn; and father, Barry Lynn Dunn.
The family invites you to celebrate his life on Saturday, November 23, 2019, with visitation from 11:00 AM - 1:30 PM. A funeral will be held Saturday, 2:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Ralph Meaker and Dr. Cody McNutt officiating. A graduate of Tifton County High School, Mr. Marchant never met a stranger and believed in living life to the fullest. Harry Q. Davis, Jr., COL (RET)
Harry Q. Davis, Jr., COL (RET), US Army, 92, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, died peacefully, Sunday, November 17, 2019. He was born on the family farm in Newton County, April 1927, to Harry Quigg and Agnus McClure Davis. Upon graduation from Covington High School in 1944, he entered the Navy, serving during WWII as a submariner in the Atlantic Theater. After discharge in the summer of 1946, he entered North Georgia College where he met the love of his life, Eloise "Weesie" Cogburn, and made many lifetime friends. In 1950, he graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration, was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the US Army at the start of the Korean War, and married Eloise soon after that.
During his 24 years as an Infantry officer and aviator, he served overseas in Germany and Korea, as well as two combat tours in Vietnam, retiring in 1974. Returning to Covington, he taught at Sharp Middle School, alongside Eloise, until she retired in the late 1980s. During their 62 years of marriage, they were avid social and accomplished contract bridge players. They also loved to dance, as they did for many years as members of the Covington Elks Club. After the passing of Eloise, Harry became a frequent golfer, playing with friends and family, especially Nancy, his daughter. He also enjoyed traveling both nationally and internationally with family. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Covington.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy Harvill; son and daughter-in-law, Quigg and Laurie Davis; grandchildren, Drew and Nate Harvill, Zack and Zeb Davis; great-granddaughter, Shelby Harvill; and sister, Quigg Piper. COL Davis will be joining his wife, Eloise, and his daughter, Teresa, who preceded him in death.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Davis will be held Thursday, November 21, 2019, 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Church, 1139 Usher Street, SW, in Covington, with Rev. Tim Barnes and Matt Tyree officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, Wednesday, November 20, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Isabelle Adams Avery, of Covington, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019, at 88 years of age. She was a member of Eastridge Community Church, where she enjoyed fellowship with her church family and volunteering as needed. Mrs. Avery was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Stewart Avery; and parents, Clarence Paul and Dessa (Edwards) Adams.

Milton Rudolph LeRoy
Milton Rudolph LeRoy of Covington, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2019, at the age of 91. Mr. LeRoy, a corporal in the United States Army, proudly served his country in World War II and Korea. In addition to being an ordained deacon for 50 plus years, he was active in the life of his church, Zion Baptist, in Covington; he was a member of Young at Heart and Treasurer for 15 years. Retiring from John Deere, after a dedicated 25 years, he enjoyed monthly meetings with Deerelicts, collecting stamps and reading. He was preceded in death by his son, James F. LeRoy; parents, Milton F. and Minnie LeRoy; sisters and brother-in-law, Dora and George Chapman, Florine Patterson.
Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Jean Elizabeth (Searcy) LeRoy; daughter, Barbara Jean Chasteen; grandchildren, Becky Ethridge, Jessica Chasteen, Jaime and David Adams; great-grandchildren, Jose (Joey) Luis, III, and Stephanie Colon, Haley Jade Adams, Bryson Lee Slade, Brielle Nicole Slade; great-great-granddaughter, Josephine Colon; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Barbara Stowe Mitchell
Barbara Stowe Mitchell of Covington, passed away Tuesday, November 5, 2019, at the age of 83. Mrs. Mitchell faithfully attended Newton Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ambassadors Sunday School Class. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and working puzzles. Mrs. Mitchell loved her family and others unconditionally – especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 62 years, Rex J. Mitchell; parents, Melvin L. and Evelyn Stowe; brother, Samuel Stowe.

Jackie E. Dunn
Jackie E. Dunn, Sr., of Oxford, passed away November 3, 2019, at the age of 76. Mr. Dunn was a member of the Apostolic Tabernacle in Jonesboro. In his spare time, he was an avid golfer and held a three hole-in-one's record. Mr. Dunn enjoyed helping others and cooking, often making his shrimp dinner and inviting everyone from his church. His family was his world – especially his grandchildren and will be missed by all who knew him. Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Eugene and Irene Jenkins Dunn; brother, Fred T. Dunn.
He Only Takes The Best: God saw you getting tired, and a cure was not to be; so he put his arms around you, and whispered, "come to me". With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away; although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.
He's been made whole and he's home.
