obit for Evelyn Johnson Capes
Evelyn Johnson Capes, age 87, of Covington, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020. Mrs. Capes was a vital member of Bethany Presbyterian Church, in Covington, and until her recent illness, she rarely missed a service. She filled many roles in her church life. Mrs. Capes was president of Women of the Church for several years, and, she had the distinct honor of being the first-ever female elder to be called at Bethany Presbyterian. Volunteering to help with Vacation Bible School was another endeavor she took on with great enthusiasm and gusto. Many of the children, who are now adults, have fond memories of Mrs. Capes picking them up every year and getting them to VBS. In keeping with her love of community, she eagerly worked alongside her husband, Sam, at their family business, Capes Sausage, which offered quality meats that were locally sourced. Additionally, Mrs. Capes was a member and leader of the TOPS Club in Covington. Her hobbies were reading, word search puzzles, cross-stitching, and creating beautiful quilts. Mrs. Capes' presence as a loving family woman will be profoundly missed by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Jackson Capes; grandson, Sam Born; mother, Lottie (Persall) Qualls; father, Chester Johnson; sister, Bernice Wallace; and brothers, Bobby Johnson, James Johnson.
Many will remember Mrs. Capes with love and affection, especially her daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and David Born; son and daughter-in-law, Phillip and Wanda Capes; grandchildren, Felicia and Jamie Ray, Tim and Anne Born, Phillip and Brooke Capes, Steven and Trudie Capes, Tracey and Mike Camp, Kim and Walt Radcliffe; great-grandchildren, Sarah Born, Lilly Born, Rhett Born, Callie Harrison, Olin Capes, Perry Camp, Emory Capes, Isaac Capes, Ava Capes, Holly Kringer, Cody White, Casey and Michelle White, Trent Ray, Christian and Morgan Camp; and great-great-granddaughter, Haley Kringer.
A Private Graveside Service for Mrs. Capes will be held at Bethany Presbyterian Cemetery in Covington. A memorial service will be held at the church at a later date. Service details will be made available when that information is available.

Judy D. Willard, age 77, of Mansfield, passed away Friday, March 27, 2020. Mrs. Willard attended Callie Fuller Baptist Church, in Monticello, and was known affectionately as "Momma" to friends and family. She earned her nickname, in part, due to her nurturing ways and her propensity to love others unconditionally and with an open heart. Mrs. Willard was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Inez (Haralson) Beam.
Left to cherish the memory of Mrs. Willard is the love of her life, and husband of 59 years, Gene Willard; daughters and son-in-law, Christy Kile, Angela and Brad Lane; sons and daughters-in-law, Jamie and Bridgette Willard, Monty and Judy Willard; grandchildren, Brittany Petree, Brandon Willard, Jeremy Willard, Timmy Willard, Derrick Willard, Nolan Willard, Nick Williamson, Dustin Williamson, Abbey Williamson, Zack Edge; twelve great-grandchildren; sisters, Joan Faucett, Sharley Braswell; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Evelyn Long Jones, age 85, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, March 25, 2020. The cornerstones of Mrs. Jones' life were faith, family, and friends. As an integral and supportive member of First Baptist of Covington, Mrs. Jones served her church with loyalty and dedication; past responsibilities included financial secretary and WMU Director. She counted time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as one of her greatest joys. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jonathan Jones; parents, Fred and Myrtle (Meeks) Long; and brothers, Earnest Long, Cecil Long.
Left to remember Mrs. Jones with love and affection is her husband of 64 years, Reed N. Karen Ellis Puckett
Karen Ellis Puckett of Covington, passed away Saturday, March 21, 2020, at the age of 67. Mrs. Puckett was a faithful member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, in Covington, and retired from Lithonia Lighting after 18 years of dedicated service. Devoted to helping others, Mrs. Puckett volunteered her time at the Willing Helpers Food Ministry. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing pool and crocheting. Mrs. Puckett loved her family dearly and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton Wesley and Gladys Mae Ellis.

Larry D. Lester of Covington, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at the age of 64. Mr. Lester enjoyed fishing, playing cards and working on lawnmowers when he was able. He loved spending time with his great-grandchildren and shared a special bond with each of them. Michael Bradley "Brad" Coody
Michael Bradley "Brad" Coody, 42, died March 16, 2020, at his home in Clayton, NC. Brad was born on April 14, 1977, in Warner Robins, GA. He grew up in Snellville, GA, and graduated from South Gwinnett High School. At the time of his death, Brad was employed at Atlas Restoration in Clayton, NC. Prior to moving to North Carolina, Brad lived in Covington, GA, and was the proud father to two amazing children, Kaitlyn Coody (19) and Cooper Coody (15).
Brad loved his children, his family, and his friends fiercely. In his spare time, Brad enjoyed UGA
football, fishing, playing the guitar, trips to the beach, attending concerts, dancing, and being
anywhere that included him being the life of the party.
Brad will always be remembered for his bigger-than-life personality and his loud, contagious
laugh that could brighten the darkest of days.
Brad is survived by his children, Kaitlyn Coody, Cooper Coody; father, Mike Coody (Beth); mother, Suzanne Daniel (Ronnie); sister, Jennifer Neely; niece, Presley Neely; as well as several other extended family members.

Harold T. Harper, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at the age of 89. Mr. Harper dutifully and proudly served in both the United States Army and the United States Navy. He was a member and deacon at High Point Baptist Church and was retired from his much-loved job with Bellsouth after a remarkable forty-one years. In earlier days, Mr. Harper's love of hunting and farming beckoned him outdoors, where he devoted his energies to bailing hay, tending to his cows, and feeding the fish. He shared a special bond with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the ties that bound them together were the result of his unconditional love and attentive ways. Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Harper; parents, Lawrence and Luna (Reagan) Harper; sister, Agnes Betts; and brother, Clifford Harper.

Ray "Ray Boy" Hodges, age 86, of McDonough, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020. Ray Boy was a member of the VFW and the United Auto Workers-General Motors. He was a man who was drawn to the outdoors, and his hobbies echoed his passion for nature. He liked to bird hunt, fish and garden. Ray Boy was known for animated and colorful storytelling, and his love of dancing. His open-door policy to friends and family was a testimony of his kindhearted demeanor and his depth of compassion for others. Ray Boy was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy "Boots" Hodges; son, Michael Hodges; and parents, Juie and Faye Hodges.

Mary Ruth Laverty, age 75, of Covington, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2020. Fondly known to friends and family as "Nanny Ruth", Mrs. Laverty was a longtime and supportive member of Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities. She worked closely with the mission ministry, shared her vocal talents singing in the choir, and cooked meals for countless church events. Mrs. Laverty used her caretaking nature to successfully start an in-home daycare and looked after the well-being of numerous children in Newton County. She was a fan of many genres of music, but it was country and gospel she connected with most. Mrs. Laverty had many things in her life that sparked joy. Among her favorites were Christmas, trips to the beach, puzzles, playing games of all kinds, shopping, and watching the Braves on TV - never missing a game! She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Laverty; mother, Maude Foskey; father, James Taylor; as well as three sisters.

obit for Susan (King) Webb
Susan Webb, age 60, of Covington, passed away Friday, March 13, 2020. Susan was a vital member of New Life Praise Center, and for thirty-six years, a dedicated employee of Walmart. In her role as grandmother, she loved to connect with her grandchildren and shopping was one of the many ways she spoiled them, not only with time spent together but oftentimes treating them to ice cream and little trinkets. Evidence of Susan's fun and bubbly personality was on display whenever she went to see performances of Elvis impersonators – her all-time favorite entertainer, and anytime she was cheering on and rooting for the Crimson Tide. Additionally, Susan liked to travel to Tennessee where she hoped to one day live. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Chester and Nellie Pearl (Rodgers) King; and her cat, Boo Bear.
Susan will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Tara Lei and Billy Day; grandchildren, Abigail Day, William Day; former husband, Robby Webb and his wife, Debbie; as well as her beloved cat, Presley, aptly named in honor of her favorite singer, Elvis Presley.

Neisha Whitlow
Neisha Whitlow of Covington, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020, at the age of 54. Neisha was a great artist and enjoyed knitting, reading and finding new facts. In her spare time, she liked to travel with her husband across the country, whether it was to the mountains or to Daytona Beach to watch her favorite sport, NASCAR. In addition, Neisha was also an avid Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Tech Fan. She was a free spirit and loved everyone unconditionally, especially her two sons, Robby and Daniel, who she was always proud of and her two fur babies, Ike and Butters, who were also like her sons.

Stephen Roberts
Stephen Roberts of Covington, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2020, at the age of 48. Stephen was sweet and generous and had a belly laugh that was contagious. He enjoyed traveling to the beach, buying gifts for others, fishing, watching the Braves, going out to eat and especially enjoyed taking pictures with pretty girls. In addition, Stephen liked to watch superhero and Harry Potter movies. His most respected heroes being police officers and firefighters. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Papa and Mema Roberts, Grandmama and Granddaddy Satterfield.

Daniel "Danny" Biddy, Sr.
Daniel "Danny" Biddy, Sr. of Eatonton, passed away Friday, March 6, 2020 at the age of 71. Mr. Biddy was a motorcycle enthusiast and enjoyed woodworking and being outdoors fishing – especially bass fishing. He loved his family dearly and adored the time spent with his grandchildren. Mr. Biddy will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alice Biddy; sisters, Clara Mae, Molly; and brothers, Wesley, Wendell.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Debbie Biddy; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ed Macias; sons and daughter-in-law, Daniel "Bubba", Jr. and Vicky Biddy, Anthony Biddy and fiancé Thresa Williams; eight grandchildren; one Great-Grandchild; sisters Joyce Burris, Faye Stoghill; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Biddy will be held Wednesday, March 11, 2020, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Steven Jarrett officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at the funeral home, two hours prior to her service, from 12 Noon – 2:00 P.M. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 105 West Park Drive, Suite C, Athens, GA 30606.

Billy (W.T.) Skinner
Billy (W.T.) Skinner of Covington, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2020, at the age of 75. Mr. Skinner was a faithful member of Porterdale Baptist Church, for 54 years, and a member of the Masonic Lodge Golden Fleece #6 F&AM. His faith and family were the two most important things in his life. Sharing a special bond with his grandchildren, he enjoyed taking them fishing. Mr. Skinner loved his family dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ricki Lynn Criswell; parents, Tom and Lucille Skinner; sister, Mildred Leigh Jay.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley Skinner; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Chuck Wooley, Hope and Jimmy Ricks; grandchildren, Nichole, Adrienne, J.T., Jeremy, Jaden Daniel, Leah, Jaden Lynn, Dilynn, Zabin; as well as twelve great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Skinner will be held Sunday, March 8, 2020, 3:00 P.M., at Porteradale Baptist Church, 2 Ash Street, in Porterdale, with Pastor David Wheeler, Mayor Steve Horton and Frank Turner officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park with Masonic Honors. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Saturday, March 7, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Porterdale Baptist Church video equipment fund in honor of Mr. Skinner.

Betty Ann Durden Brown
Betty Ann Durden Brown, age 85, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2020. Of the Baptist faith, Mrs. Brown was a lifelong resident of Newton County, where she was a vital and active member of her local community. She was retired from C.R. Bard and was a member of the Elkadets for thirty-five years. Mrs. Brown was always on-hand for club fundraising and bingo night. She was known for her enormous capacity to love and having an open and caring heart. Mrs. Brown was her truest self any time she was surrounded by people - whether hosting family gatherings or engaging in conversation with others while attending events on the town square. She was preceded in death by her parents, Press and Alice (Mixon) Daniel; and brother, Jack Daniel.
Left to remember Mrs. Brown with love and adoration is her husband, Douglas Brown; daughter, Vicki Moon and her husband, Johnny, of Bogart; sons, Randy Durden and his wife, Milinda, of Shady Dale, Billy Durden and his fiancée, Shelly Reilly, of Monticello; grandchildren, Libby Hall, Adam Durden, Jason Durden, John David Moon; ten great-grandchildren; sister, Deanny Middlebrooks of Covington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Brown will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020, 3:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Darrell Payne officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home, two hours prior to the service, from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M.

obit for Stacey Anderson
Stacey Anderson, age 57, of Covington, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020. Stacey had an appreciation for what might be considered the simple things, yet the time she spent cooking, gardening, and gathering with family provided her with a life she loved. Stacey was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Benson and Julia Kate (White) Brady.
Stacey will be lovingly remembered by the many lives she touched, especially her fiancé of nine years, Terry King; daughter, Katie J. Melovitz; grandchildren, Josie, Asher; sisters, Lena Hulsey, Lisa English, Wanda Clark, Sonya Montour; brothers, Victor Bryant, Fred Bryant; several nieces and nephews; as well as her close friends, Nancy James, Brenda King.
