Obit - Tom Ciancuielli aka Tom Ciani

Thomas Q. Ciancuielli "Tom Ciani" of Covington passed away January 28, 2013 at the age of 63.  Tom is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Megan Ciancuielli, Joseph and Roseann Ciancuielli, Christopher and Giovanna Ciancuielli; daughter, Carol Ann Ciancuielli; grandchildren, Luke, Carson, Bryce, Adrianna, Sophia and Gianna Ciancuielli; sisters, Madeline Romano and Joan Pisano.


Funeral services for Tom will be held Sunday, February 3, 2013, 2:00 PM, at The Baptist Tabernacle, 10119 Access Rd., Covington, with Dr. David Moody officiating.  Interment will take place at a later date in Pinelawn Memorial Gardens, Farmingdale, NY.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday, from 1:00 to 2:00 PM, at the church.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Bus Ministry of The Baptist Tabernacle, 10119 Access Rd., Covington, GA 30014.

Obit - Ted McMillan, Sr.


Ted Eugene McMillan, Sr., of Covington, passed away January 29, 2013, at the age of 81. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, and worked for Savannah River Plant, for 15 years. He and his brother, Bobby, owned and operated the Clover Farm Supermarket, in Savannah. In addition, Ted owned the following restaurants: Wishbone Fried Chicken in Newnan, East Dublin KFC in Dublin, The Loading Dock in Columbia, SC, Ruth's Family Restaurant, The Whataburger, both in Augusta, Evan's Diner in Evans, GA, Papa's Country Buffet in Doraville, P.J. Country Buffet in Newberry, SC, Central Park in Sumter, SC, and Mama Maria's in Covington. He was a member of Bay Branch Baptist Church, in Sylvania, GA, was actively involved in the Brotherhood at the church, and was also a Mason. Ted was a devoted husband and father; and was a kind and generous man who always wanted to help everyone in his life. He is loved, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

 

Survivors include his wife, Gresilda "Gres" McMillan; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Allen Halley, Tammy and John E. Hughes, Sr.; sons and daughter-in-law, Ted and Robin McMillan, Bowman McMillan; grandchildren, Michael and Keunte McMillan; Ashley Rainwater and Joey Arrington, Ted McMillan, III, Wesley Broome, Chris McMillan, Candice McMillan Josteph; Michell and Ryan Ownes; John E. A Memorial Service for Ted will be held Friday, February 1, 2013, 5:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, prior to the service, from 3:30-5:00 PM.

Randy S. Banks, of Covington, passed away on January 23, 2013, at the age of 49.  He loved his family, and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his friends.  Mr. Banks was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Martha Banks; sister, Deborah Ann Banks; and brothers, William Boyd Banks, Bob Banks, and Tim Banks.

 

Survivors include his wife, Denise Banks of Covington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Teresa and Vic Smith and Martha and Tim Shannon all of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Allen and Tammy Banks of Loganville and Gary and Teresa Banks of Social Circle; best friend, Rickey Conner of Covington; several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

 

A Graveside service will be held at a later date.

Obit - Jewell Martin

Jewell Martin, of Lilburn, passed away on January 27, 2013, at the age of 79.  She retired from Southern Bell after more than 42 years of service.  She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Brookhaven, Georgia on June 9, 1974 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Tucker for 6 years.  Mr. and Mrs. Martin were avid square dancers in the Skippers Club.  Mrs. Martin was a member of the Southern Bell Pioneers and volunteered for the USO, Bell South Golf Classic, the Peachtree Road Race, Junior Achievement, Juvenile Diabetes, Habitat for Humanity, and Adopt a Highway.  They also volunteered at the old Fulton County Stadium and Turner Field.  She was also an active member of the Red Hat Society.  Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, D. Woodie Martin; and parents, Charlie and Hettie Arlene (Hollaway) Lankford.

 

Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law, Charles and Donna Martin of Covington and Roger Martin of Lilburn; 3 grandchildren, Brandi Norris of Covington, Chad and Jennie Martin of Social Circle and Hunter Martin of Kennesaw; 5 great-grandchildren, Collin Norris, Griffin Norris, Masin Norris, Korbin Martin and Addyson Martin; sisters, Blanche Sneed of Cusseta, Elsie Ellington of Conyers and Love Presley of Eatonton; brother and sister-in-law, Gus and Pat Lankford of Eatonton; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Martin will be held Thursday, January 31, 2013, 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Sr. Pastor Phill Nall officiating, and interment in Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery, in Eatonton, at 2:30 PM.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, January 30, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.  Flowers accepted or donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 500, Atlanta, Georgia, 30346 or a charity of your choice.

Obit - Helen G. Peterson

Helen G. Peterson, of Covington and Dunwoody, passed away on January 25, 2013 at the age of 98.  Mrs. Peterson worked in retail sales for Davidson's Department store and eventually became a Certified Nursing Assistant and an Ombudsman for area nursing homes.  She enjoyed flower gardening and was happily married for 40 years to A. Charles Peterson, who predeceased her.

 

Survivors include her daughters, Helena Peterson and husband Robert Mealey of Belfast, Maine; Georgianna Frame of Fresno, CA; son Edward Allen of Port Charlotte, FL; daughter-in-law, Frankie Sheffield of Dunwoody, GA; grandchildren Thoreau Lovell, Stefan Lovell, Angela Allen, Catherine Allen, George Allen, Clare Googins, Kate Mealey; special granddaughter and loving companion, Patti Sheffield of Dunwoody; and many great-grandchildren.

 

A Mass for Christian Burial for Mrs. Peterson will be held Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 11:00 AM, at St. Pius Catholic Church, in Conyers, with Father John Kieran officiating, and interment in Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Obit - Gloria Diggory

Gloria Faith Diggory of Covington, passed away January 22, 2013, at the age of 81. She enjoyed cooking, picnicking with her husband, and rose gardening. Mrs. Diggory loved traveling across the United States, with her husband, in their motorhome. She was a member of First Baptist Church, in Conyers, and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, David Edwin Diggory; son, Robert D. Diggory; and her parents, Walter and Rena (Hackney) Brown.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and David Spehar of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Beth Diggory of Covington, Larry and Diane Diggory of Modesto, CA; grandchildren, Matthew Diggory, Stephanie Spehar, Michael Diggory, Ashley Diggory, Heather and Konan Thomason; great-grandchildren, K.J. Thomason, Caedmon Thomason, Joel Thomason; several nieces, nephews, and a cousin.

Kathy Nesbitt Hill of Covington, died January 20, 2013, at the age of 52. Kathy trained horses, at Breedlove Farms, for the last 15 years. She loved her family dearly, and will be missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Roth Nesbitt; and her grandparents, Clarence and Emma Garrett.

Lurline Teagle, 85, of Cartersville, GA, quietly passed away January 21, 2013, at her son's home, in Bozeman, MT. Mrs. Teagle was born in Monroe County, GA, to the late Charles Paul and Lucille (Wise) Freeman. She was a 1944 graduate of Mary Person High School, in Forsyth, retired from Atlanta Stove Works, in Atlanta, and was a member of the Cassville Baptist Church, in Cartersville. Mrs. Teagle was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur "Will" Teagle.

 

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Olga Teagle of Bozeman, MT; granddaughter, Julianne and Bradley Payne; great-grandchildren, Chloe Payne and Krux Payne, all of Cartersville.

Andrew "Jack" Walden of Covington, passed away January 22, 2013, at the age of 84. He was a dedicated father, devoted husband, and loving caretaker to his wife, Leola. Jack loved his family, and enjoyed singing with his wife. He loved flowers, animals, and spending time on his computer. Jack was a retired mail carrier, and a veteran of the United States Army. Obit - Terrell Lindsey

TERRELL LINDSEY
 

Terrell Lindsey of Covington passed away January 20, 2013 at Benton House.  He was 86 years of age at the time of his death.  Mr. Lindsey was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Pauline Lindsey; and brother, Reid Lindsey.  Mr. Lindsey was a very involved member of Porterdale Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and assisted on the Disaster Relief Team through the Georgia Baptist Association.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.  Prior to becoming the owner and operator of Lindsey's Body Shop, he was employed by Ginn Motor Co., and Skinner & Digby Automotive.  Mr. Lindsey will be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father, and faithful friend to many.

 

Mr. Lindsey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Macel Lindsey, daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Dee Morris, all of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Billy Lindsey of Covington, Wallace and Gail Lindsey of Porterdale, Jimmy and Sheila Lindsey of Conley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Lindsey will be held at 3:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 23, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Dickie Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, January 22, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. 

 

 

Obit - Jennie Alesi

Jennie Alesi passed away January 18, 2013, at the age of 91, at St. Mary's, in Bogart, GA, after a long battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Charles J. Alesi, and granddaughter, Gina Alesi. Ms. Alesi was born in Chicago and moved to Ft. Lauderdale, in the 1960's, where she lived for 45 years. She was a property manager for Villa Frasca Apartments, in Ft. Lauderdale, and retired after 20 years of managing several travel agencies in Broward County. Later, Ms. Alesi and her husband moved to Georgia to be near family. She was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church, in Covington.

 

She is survived by her son, Joel (Charlotte) Alesi; daughter, Charlene (Herb) Rosenthal, all of Covington; grandchildren, Joseph McArtor, Jennifer McArtor, Cherie (Vince) Frankson, Charles J. (Colette) Alesi II; great-grandchildren, Bernadette, Luke and Amanda Frankson, Benjamin and Gabriel Levin, Casen Alesi; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, January 24, 2013, 11:00 AM, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, in Covington. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, Wednesday, January 23, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-9:00 PM. Rosary service will be held at 7:00 PM. Norma J. Travis of Covington, passed away January 15, 2013, following a long illness. Norma was 80 years old at the time of her death. She and her husband, Glenn, were both active members of the First United Methodist Church, in Covington. She attended college at Brigham Young University, in Ogden, UT, Sul Ross State University, in Alpine, TX, and Georgia State University, in Atlanta. She was actively involved in local and state political activities where she made significant contributions. Norma is loved, and will be missed by her family and friends.

 

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Glenn W. Travis; daughters, Priscilla Travis, Melinda D'Aun McKittrick; son, Steven F. Travis; daughter-in-law, Michelle Travis; granddaughters, Allison Travis, Kierston McKittrick; grandsons, Glenn W. Travis, II, Atticus McKittrick, and Zachary McKittrick.

Obit - James V. Cartledge

JAMES V. CARTLEDGE
 

James V. Cartledge of Conyers passed away January 13, 2013 at At Home Hospice in Conyers.  He was 79 years of age at the time of his death.  He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Keith Cartledge, parents, Joseph H. and Lola May (Chapman) Cartledge; and brother Groves Cartledge.  Mr. Cartledge served six times as Commander of American legion Post # 77 in Conyers.  As Commander, he was instrumental in starting the recreational ball fields in Rockdale County by time leases with the American Legion.  Mr. Cartledge was a Rockdale County Volunteer Fireman and honorary member of Rockdale County Sheriffs Office Reserves.  He was an avid sports fan, especially the Georgia Bulldogs.  Mr. Cartledge retired from American Freight Systems, Golden State Foods, and Ginn Motor Company. 

 

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Juanita Cartledge of Conyers; children and their spouses, Frankie and Jack King of Lilburn, Jimmy and Susan Cartledge of Conyers, Tim and Tammy Cartledge of Oxford, Elsie and Greg Lightfoot of Crown Point, IN; grandchildren, David King, Michael and Beth Cartledge, Jonathan and Amy Cartledge, Lisa and Zach Ward, Ryan Cartledge, Cody Mauldin, Erin and Nick Egnatz, Jessica Lightfoot; great-grandchildren, Jacob Harper, Ali Cartledge, Tristan Egnatz, Olivia Ward; sister, Blanche Andrews, Commerce; brothers, Willard Cartledge of Commerce, Paul Cartledge of Nicholson, GA;  as well as several nieces and nephews.

Grady Loyless, Sr., of Covington, passed away January 14, 2013, at the age of 89. Mr. Loyless was a veteran of the United States Army, having proudly served his country during World War II. He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, and watching wrestling.

George Harold Traylor, of Covington, passed away on January 13, 2013, at the age of 84.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to many.  He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor's Degree in Business.  He worked for the Internal Revenue Service where he retired after 33 years of service.   He also served his country in the United States Army during World War II.  Mr. Traylor was a member of Oxford Baptist Church where he attended the Joy Sunday School Class. He was a member of Glenwood Hills Baptist Church in Conyers, where he served as deacon prior to joining Oxford Baptist Church.  He enjoyed wood-working, gardening, fishing, working crossword puzzles and traveling.  He is preceded in death by his parents Thomas Herbert and Gladys (Hill) Traylor; and 3 brothers.

 

Survivors include his loving wife, Frances Howard Traylor of Covington; daughter, Debbie Traylor also of Covington; sons and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Chris Traylor of Easley, SC and Steve Traylor of Covington; grandchildren, Brooke Traylor of Richmond, VA, Zeke and Adrienne Traylor of Farmville, VA; great-grandchildren, Gavin Traylor of Richmond, VA, Taylor Frink and Tyler Frink both of Farmville, VA; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Jerry Van Curler of Covington; sisters-in-law, Eva Traylor of Atlanta, GA and Myrel Traylor of Chester, SC; and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Traylor will be held Wednesday, January 16, 2013, 11:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Chuck Traylor, Rev. Jerry Van Curler and Dr. Ron Long officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Obit - Pat Middlebrooks


Pat Middlebrooks, of Covington, passed away on January 10, 2013, at the age of 56.  Pat was a devoted wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend to many.  She worked for the Bank of Covington for 17 years and National Auto Lock for 10 years.  She was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church.  Pat enjoyed reading and traveling, especially to Cades Cove in Gatlinburg.  Her cat, Yella, was her passion.    She was preceded in death by her father, James Edward Bone; sister, Annette Bone; and brothers Jim Bone and Howell Bone.

 

Survivors include her loving husband of 34 years, Ray Middlebrooks of Covington; mother, Retha Bone also of Covington; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ginger and Phil Tucker of Oxford and Nancy Knight of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Bone of Covington, Greg and Marie Bone of Social Circle, Carol Bone of Conyers, Sara Bone and Holly Hall, both of Covington; father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Shirley Middlebrooks of Covington; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and her cat, Yella.

Obit - Merle Hays Prosser

Merle Hays Prosser of Mansfield, passed away January 10, 2013, at the age of 96. She was a member of Luther Hays Presbyterian, in Hayston, both named after her forbears. Mrs. Prosser and her husband, Anson, owned and operated Prosser Variety Store, in Mansfield, for over 25 years. She enjoyed reading, writing, solving crossword puzzles, meeting new people, and visiting with old friends when they came into their store. She enjoyed writing poems and stories for church programs, and stories based on her childhood experiences. She loved her family dearly, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anson A. Prosser, Sr.; and her parents, Ernest and Olivia Hays.

Obit - Mary Kitchens Lassiter

Mary Kitchens Lassiter, 86, of Covington, passed away January 9, 2013, at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living, in Gainesville. Mary was born September 25, 1926, in Newton County, to Thomas Watson and Genie Strickland Kitchens. A dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, Mary loved cooking and taking care of her family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James William (Bill) Lassiter; brother, Watson Harvey Kitchens; and sisters, Mildred Watkins and Ora Mae Short.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Ken Haynie; son and daughter-in-law, James William (Jim), Jr., and Joie Lassiter; grandchildren, Kimberly Hughes, Jason, Brian and Katie Lassiter; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Kitchens Fuller; several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Annlouise Norris

Annlouise Norris of Conyers, passed away January 5, 2013, at the age of 90. She was a member of Epiphany Lutheran Church, in Conyers. Annlouise enjoyed collecting Colonial period artifacts, and meeting new people. Once you became friends with Annlouise, she would consider you a friend for life! Annlouise lived in the same neighborhood, for more than 20 years, and cared for her neighbors as if they were family. She loved her family dearly, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elizabeth (Costabile) Noschese; and her brother, Ralph Albert Noschese.

 

She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Joyce Noschese of Las Vegas, NV; a number of nieces and nephews; and one special Godchild, Annlouise, the daughter of her longtime best friend, Pat.

Obit - Marian Eloise Davis

Mrs. Marian Eloise "Weesie" Davis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, teacher and friend, died peacefully on January 6, 2013.  Eloise Davis was born June 3, 1928 to Carl and Lois Cogburn in Marietta Georgia.  Eloise is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, COL (Ret) Harry Q. Davis, Jr.; their children, Nancy Harvill and Quigg Davis; grandchildren, Nate Harvill, Drew Harvill, Zack Davis and Zeb Davis; sister, Betty Jane Hall.  Eloise will be joining her daughter, Teresa who preceded her in death.

 

Eloise grew up in Jasper, GA and graduated from Pickens County High School in 1945.  She then entered North Georgia College graduating in 1949 with a BS in Biology and Physical Education.  While there, she was voted most friendly, best personality and Miss North Georgia College of 1949.  Most importantly she met and fell in love with Harry.  She remained an active supporter of the college, served on the Alumni Board for four years and was instrumental in establishing annual alumni reunions for the 1946-1950 year groups.  In 1949 Eloise began her teaching career at Porterdale High School and completed it 39 years later at Sharp Middle School in 1988.  She taught in multiple states and overseas during her teaching years, but returned to Covington in 1974 to finish her career.  She was a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Organization for Women Educators, where she served as the Newton County Chapter Chaplain for many years.  She was a dedicated Army wife for 24 years with assignments ranging from Germany to Oklahoma and was a "single mom" during Harry's tour to Korea and two tours to Vietnam.  Throughout her life, Eloise volunteered with hospital auxiliaries, with the last being Newton County where she worked in the "First Steps" program. She also ran a small business in Covington, the Patrick House gift shop, for over a decade.  Eloise was a gifted storyteller and was always willing to perform for schools, churches and other community gatherings.  Eloise was a member of the First Baptist Church of Covington where she taught Sunday School for 37 years and told children's stories in the sanctuary for many of those years. She was an avid and accomplished bridge player,

playing duplicate competitively for many years with Harry, obtaining the level of Life Master in the American Contract Bridge League. She was a member of multiple social bridge groups in Covington. As a couple, Weesie and Harry also loved to dance, as they did for many years as members of the Covington Elks Club.

 

Funeral Services for Eloise will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013, 2:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church in Covington with Rev. Jack Wilson, Rev. Len Strozier and Rev. Jeff Martin officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, January 8, 2013, from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:30-8:30 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to your favorite charity.

Cora Hays Dennis, of Mansfield, passed away January 4, 2013, at the age of 90.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Julian H. (Bow) Dennis; and parents William Penn and Irene (Goins) Hays.

 

"Miss Cora" along with "Mr. Bow" were pillars of the Mansfield and Newton County communities for over half a century. She was a loving and devoted wife and partner in marriage and business for over 65 years.  Gran loved and spoiled her children and grandchildren, and they loved her dearly in return. "Miss Cora" was a faithful and active member of Mansfield Baptist Church and later First Baptist Church of Covington, serving in numerous teaching and leadership roles; PTA president; Cub Scout den mother; Band Booster; and mentor and friend to generations of family and friends. 

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy (Dennis) and Tom Underdown of Winter Springs, FL; son, W. Michael Dennis of Longwood, FL; grandchildren, Meghan Dennis and husband, Jason Sabotin; Jenny Dennis Carey and husband, Jack; Karin Underdown; and great-grandson, Edward William Carey.

Obit - Anthony John Drewry

Anthony John Drewry of Covington, passed away January 4, 2013, at the age of 73. He led a charmed life. Among his many achievements, he was a Captain in the US Air force, received the Distinguished Flying Cross for his service in the Vietnam war, flew as a Captain for Delta for 32 years, and traveled all over the world. His greatest joys are those that have survived him.  His friendships were life-long as well, and he will be missed by the Birthday Club and his Air force buddies. 

 

Survivors include the love of his life, Melody Mason Drewry, who he was fortunate to have been married to for 45 years; three loving daughters, three devoted sons-in-law, 8 grandchildren; as well as a brother in Louisville.

Charles C. Bass of Covington passed away at January 1, 2013 at Newton Medical Center.  He was 72 years of age at the time of his death.  Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Young.  He liked to travel and ride his motorcycle.  He also enjoyed woodworking. 

 

Mr. Bass is survived by his son, David Bass of Covington; grandchildren, Ashley Bass, David Lane, Jr.; great-grandson, Talon Chaning; and his brother, James L. Bass.

Ralph Harper of Social Circle passed away January 2, 2013 at Rockdale Medical Center.  He was 82 years of age at the time of his death.  Mr. Harper was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Harper, daughter, Julia Allison Harper, and parents, Archie and Louise Harper.  He enjoyed fishing, working in the garden and being outside.  He loved his family and never met a stranger.  Mr. Harper served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War.  During his career he worked for the City of Covington, Oxford Police Department, and later retired from the Newton County Sheriffs Office.

 

Mr. Harper is survived by sons and daughter-in-law, Douglas Harper of Social Circle, Terry and Lori Harper of Melbourne, FL; grandson, Michael Trey Harper of Carrollton; sister, Sara Harper of TX; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Richard and Shelia Harper of Snellville, Otis and Sandra Harper of Covington, Jimmy Harper of Covington; Junior and Louise Harper of Stone Mountain, William and Joyce Harper of Covington; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wanda Jane Nichols of Covington passed away January 2, 2013 at Newton Medical Center.  She was 47 years of age at the time of her death.  Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by her father, Charlie Britt Wilson.  She taught Sunday School for over 20 years, loved her family and her friends.  She enjoyed traveling, going to the beach, reading, cooking for people, and scrap booking.  Mrs. Nichols loved to play with her dog, Maxx.

Larry Chester Hepner of Covington, passed away January 2, 2013, at the age of 72. Mr. Hepner was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed both watching GA Tech football and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, surfing the internet, and visiting old museums and historical sites. Mr. Hepner loved meeting new people, and had a great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Monte and Evelyn Hepner; and his brother, Ricky Hepner.

Sylvia Willard Rickman of Conyers, passed away December 31, 2012, at the age of 71. She enjoyed shopping, eating out, spending time with her family, and getting a manicure and pedicure. Alma Beasley of Covington, passed away at her home, January 2, 2013. Mrs. Beasley was born June 28, 1921, in Lumpkin County, to the late Wesley and Izabel (Garrett) Satterfield. A former resident of DeKalb County for 45 years, Mrs. Beasley has been a resident of Newton County for the past 23 years. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church, in DeKalb County.  She enjoyed gardening, canning her vegetables, planting flowers, working in her yard, quilting, and spending time with her family. Mrs. Beasley was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Beasley; sons, Harold Beasley, Danny Beasley; and her sister, Maude Carder.

 

Mrs. Beasley is survived by her daughters, Mildred Steele of Stone Mountain, Frances Crowe of Conyers, Kathy Scott of Covington, Linda Fitzgerald of Douglasville; son, Larry Beasley of Goose Creek, SC; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Sighard (Sig) Sahling of Covington passed away December 30, 2012 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle.  He was 70 years of age at the time of his death.  Mr. Sahling was preceded in death by his parents, Heinrich and Louise Sahling.  He was a model railroad enthusiast and liked to build computers.  He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, and friend to many.

 

Mr. Sahling is survived by his wife, Edeltraut (Eva) Sahling of Covington; son, Peter David Sahling of Tampa, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Erna Sahling and Walter Lehmann of Stuttgart, Germany.
