Mary Kitchens Lassiter, 86, of Covington, passed away January 9, 2013, at Dogwood Forest Assisted Living, in Gainesville. Mary was born September 25, 1926, in Newton County, to Thomas Watson and Genie Strickland Kitchens. A dedicated wife, mother, and homemaker, Mary loved cooking and taking care of her family. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, James William (Bill) Lassiter; brother, Watson Harvey Kitchens; and sisters, Mildred Watkins and Ora Mae Short.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Lynda and Ken Haynie; son and daughter-in-law, James William (Jim), Jr., and Joie Lassiter; grandchildren, Kimberly Hughes, Jason, Brian and Katie Lassiter; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Kitchens Fuller; several nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service for Mary will be held Sunday, January 13, 2013, 3:00 PM, at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Rd., in Covington. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Rd., Sunday, from 2:00-3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346; or another charity of your choice. The family would like to thank the wonderful employees at The Oaks at Scenic View Assisted Living in Baldwin, GA, and Dogwood Forest Assisted Living Inspirations Unit in Gainesville, GA, for their loving care provided to Mary, and in the final hours of her life, Crossroads Hospice.
