Obit - Linus Daniel Miller
Linus Daniel Miller of Conyers, passed away February 26, 2013, at the age of 68. He was a graphic artist, and worked at several local printing shops for the last 40 years. Mr. Miller was a member of the Masonic Lodge, past president of Georgia Highway 20 Coalition, and active in his Homeowners Association. He enjoyed NASCAR and working on cars. Mr. Miller loved his family, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis D. Miller.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Miller; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Tony DeMaria of Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Lauren Miller of Covington; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Mathis, Anthony DeMaria, Kourtney Mathis, Christopher DeMaria, Natalie DeMaria; mother, Betty Miller of Cayuga, IN; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Robert Morgan of Newport, IN; several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Gus Christian, Jr. passed away February 27, 2013, at his home in Covington. He was 85 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. Christian loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing pool, card games, and woodworking. Mr. Christian was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Mae (Smithwick) Christian, father, Augustus Stovall Christian, and step-mother, Nellie Mae Christian.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Les and Kathy Christian, Steve and Anne Lott, Ricky and Sandra Christian, all of Covington; grandchildren, Jeff Christian, Mike Lott, Chris Lott, Susan Davis, Chris Fowle, Randy Brock, Kristy Bryant; 9 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Christian will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, with Pastor Mike Blevins officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Obit - Rendie "Randi" Fisher Abercrombie
Rendie "Randi" Fisher Abercrombie of Covington, passed away February 25, 2013, at the age of 88. Mrs. Abercrombie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the AARP - Chapter 3542, and the Mental Health Association in Newton County. She worked for Bell Bomber Plant, in Detroit, during WWII; before retiring from Rich's after 22 ½ years of employment. Mrs. Abercrombie enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, sewing, and crocheting. She was preceded in death by the love of her life - her husband of 62 years, Ralph Abercrombie; parents, John and Willie (Galloway) Fisher; several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Rick Abercrombie of Smyrna; brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur and Musette Fisher of Oxford; several nieces and nephews.

Bobbie Bishop of Mansfield, passed away February 24, 2013, at the age of 73. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, and keeping a clean house. She was co-owner and bookkeeper for Bishop & Bergbower, Inc. Mrs. Bishop was preceded in death by her husband, David Bishop; and her parents, Lee and Bobbie (Canup) Adams.

Thelma Owensby Watts, of Covington, passed away February 22, 2013, at the age of 61. Ms. Watts was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She enjoyed camping, dancing and traveling. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Dempsey and Eva Estelle (Duff) Owensby; sister, Betty Jean (Owensby) Carter; and brother, James William Owensby.

Sandy Michelle Cunard, better known as "Sunshine", left this earth far too soon on February 20, 2013. She cherished her family and friends dearly and always had a smile that would light up the room. Sandy loved life, and enjoyed spending time with her friends, dancing, singing karaoke, clogging with her group, the Dixie Delights, and she always looked forward to the girl's annual Christmas shopping trip. She also enjoyed her girl's night out. Sandy and Kim had a hard time with directions; it seemed like every trip ended in Lawrenceville, no matter where they had planned to go. She was the perfect example of a loving mother, and always enjoyed game night with the kids and loved playing practical jokes back and forth with her son, Trevor. Sandy is loved, and will forever be missed by those who knew her. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, George and Dorothy Smith; grandfather, Norman M. Williamson; and father, Tony E. Martin.

Obit - Michael (Mike) Wade Haygood
Michael "Mike" Wade Haygood of Mansfield died February 20, 2013 at the age of 60. A nature lover, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He was very artistic and a true hobbyist, having handcrafted birdhouses and walking canes. Mike was described as "the salt of the earth," and will be remembered as an all-around good man. He dearly loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lois (Cowan) Haygood, and grandson, Ryan Jeffares.

Obit - Richard Branham
Richard A. Branham, Sr. age 87 of Mount Dora, FL, passed away February 7, 2013. He was born October 31, 1925 in Atlanta, GA to Verlyn and Frances Branham. Mr. Branham was a Korean Conflict and WWII Navy Veteran. He was a very active life member of both Sons of Confederate Veterans Jacob Summerlin Camp 1516 and B.P.O.E. Orlando and Eustis Lodges. He earned a degree in Industrial Physics from Clemson University. Mr. Branham retired from Martin Marietta after 28 years where he was a Technical Director.
Mr. Branham is survived by his wife, Inez; sons, Richard "Buck"(Rebecca) Branham, Jr., John Douglas (Connie) Branham; daughter, Lori (Joseph) Pfahler; grandchildren, Crystal, Clint, Chris, Amanda, Catherine, David; great-grandchildren, Raven, Kendall and Dylan. He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia Mary Branham in 1998.

Obit - Charlene Merritt
Ms. Charlene Merritt of Conyers, passed away unexpectedly February 9, 2013, at the age of 63. Ms. Merritt, along with her parents, operated The Forks BBQ Restaurant for over 20 years. Once the restaurant closed, she was employed by the Suburban Lodge, in Conyers. Ms. Merritt enjoyed spending time with her nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was loved, and will be missed by her family and friends. Ms. Merritt was preceded in death by her father, Charles G. Merritt; and her brother, Phil Merritt.
Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Betty B. Merritt; nieces and their husbands, Angela and Jeff Whitmire, Lisa and Steve White, all of Conyers; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; her two special dogs, Booboo and Bonnie.

Obit - Robert Eugene Hildebrandt
Robert Eugene Hildebrandt passed away February 5, 2013 at his home in Oxford. He was 64 years of age at the time of his death. Mr. Hildebrandt enjoyed traveling, home remodeling, gardening and working on old cars. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, special friend to Dorothy Hewell, and a friend to many. Mr. Hildebrandt was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond Stanislaus and Pauline Louise (Oran) Hildebrandt; and brother, Louis (Skip) Hildebrandt.
Survivors include his daughter, Kathleen Ann Hildebrandt and Robert E. Simek of Slinger, WI; son, Robert Edmond Hildebrandt and Anne E. Lindert of Germantown, WI; grandchildren, Andrew Simek, Evan Simek, Robert Edmond Hildebrandt, Jr., Amanda Marie Stewart, Brooke Renel Hildebrandt, Ericka Shelby Hildebrandt; great-grandson, Preston Stewart; sister, Lynn Funk; brothers, William and Mary Hildebrandt, James Hildebrandt; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Hildebrandt will be held in Wisconsin where he was born and raised and his family still resides at a later date.
Obit - Arnold Hyde
Arnold Hyde of Monticello passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at the age of 83. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was an Elementary School Principal for the Atlanta Public School System for 30 + years. Mr. Hyde was a church pianist at many churches, most recently, Turner United Methodist Church in McDonough. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emerson J. and Dorothy B. Hyde, and brother, E. Ray Hyde.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Maryanne Waters Hyde; daughter and son-in-law, Regina H. and Darrell Young; son and daughter-in-law, Perry A. and Deloris Hyde; grandchildren, April Young, Perry M. Hyde, Ryan Young, Kris Hyde, Ashley Kelly and husband, Ryan; great-grandchildren, Madison Kelly, Jacob Baker, Jaxon Kelly; sister-in-law, Janette Hyde Morgan.
Funeral Services for Mr. Hyde will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, February 9, in the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd St., in Covington, with Rev. Leon Baxter and Rev. Gary Boggs officiating. Interment will follow in the William Payne Cemetery, Monticello. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:30-7:30 PM. Obit - Joseph M. Isom
Joseph M. Isom was born January 29, 1923 and died February 4, 2013. A native of Taft, Lincoln County, Tennessee, Mr. Isom was the son of the late Athol Isom and Mildred Commons Isom. A graduate of Blanche High School, Lincoln County, TN, he was a Georgia resident since 1961, in Newton County since 1978. With two sons he started a family business, Metro Ice Corporation, from which he retired in 2001. His previous employment was Vice President of Operations, Atlanta/Southeast, for a mortgage and finance company, LLC Corporation of St. Louis, Missouri. The company transferred him to Atlanta from Detroit, Michigan in 1961, and in 1976, he retired to enter business for himself.
Mr. Isom was a WWII veteran, serving as a Staff Sergeant in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations for 22 months as a Supply Sergeant responsible for feeding both American and Chinese troops who were building and fighting on the Ledo Road. He was also a member of the Rohna Memorial Association. The Rohna was a British troop ship traveling in Convoy KMF-26 when it was sunk on November 26, 1943 in the Mediterranean Ocean by the first radio-controlled German Bomb of WWII. 1015 GIs lost their lives. He witnessed this disaster from aboard the sister ship, Banfora. He received an Honorable Discharge with a Bronze Star in January, 1946.
A longtime member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church in Oxford, he served as Chairman of the Missions Committee and was a member of the Pastor-Parrish Committee and the Uncle Nath Sunday School Class. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Isom; son, David Isom; granddaughter, Dr. Amanda Layne Isom; and parents, Athol F. and Mildred (Commons) Isom.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, John W. and Donna Isom of Conyers, Thomas A. and Rose Anne Isom of Boca Raton, FL; Nancy Isom of Ellijay; grandchildren; Meagan and Kevin Babb, Alissa Isom, Matthew and Ali Isom, Thomas Isom, II; great-grandsons, Keven Cooper Babb, Hudson Joseph Babb, Griffin Babb; and nephew, A.J. Isom.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Isom will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Max Vincent officiating. A private family interment will take place Friday, February 8, in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 5193 Washington St. SW, Covington, GA 30014. The family will receive friends at the church, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.

Nickolas David Ries, age 6, passed away Monday, February 4, 2013 at his home. Nickolas will be remembered as a special boy, and will be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving parents, David and Kristina Ries; brother, Cameron Allen; sister, Brianna Ries; paternal grandmother, Frieda Ries; maternal grandparents, Pam Montgomery and Shannon Black; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Obit - Joyce M. Wright
Joyce M. Wright of Covington, passed away February 3, 2013, at the age of 70. Mrs. Wright enjoyed camping, art, especially drawings, and watching Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburg Steelers football. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Margrette (Kish) Baker.
Survivors include her husband, William (Bill) Wright; sons, David Wayne Wright of Louisville, KY, Steven Michael Wright of Morgantown, PA; grandchildren, Sara Wright, Joshua Wright, Faryn Renee Wright; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Jim McNeff of Tampa, FL; niece, Cindy Adams; and nephew, Keith Adams.

Obit - Doris Evelyn Byrd
Doris Evelyn Byrd of Covington passed away February 1, 2013 at Newton Medical Center. She was 82 years of age at the time of her death. Evelyn was a longtime member of Almon Baptist Church and loved flowers and her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Susie Dire; husband, Wilbur Byrd; and son, Scott Byrd.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jimmy Minnick; sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Robin Byrd, Mike and Diane Byrd, Mark and Sandra Byrd; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

George L. Baker of Covington, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013 at the age of 71. He enjoyed reading the newspaper, watching the news, and one of his favorite hobbies was betting on the horses. Mr. Baker also loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Baker, and mother, Claris Morgan.

Clara Dunevent, of Porterdale, passed away on February 1, 2013, at the age of 82. Mrs. Dunevent retired from Covington Molding after 25 years of service. She loved her family and enjoyed preparing meals and having them over on holidays. She also enjoyed camping, fishing and listening to gospel music. Mrs. Dunevent was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest B. and Sadie Mae Mask; and brother, Ernest Edward Mask.
