Elton Neil Wright, Sr., 85, of Social Circle, GA, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Elton was born on February 13, 1930, to the late Charlie and Susie Wright. He and his four siblings grew up in Butler, GA (Taylor County). He graduated from Butler High School in 1947, and then went on to graduate from Georgia Southwestern College in 1950. After graduation Elton served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Princeton and went on to serve the United States Air Force in Okinawa. After his years of service Elton enrolled in Georgia State University where he met his wife, Jean Gower Wright, of 59 years. Together Elton and Jean built a loving home for their two children, Elton Neil Wright, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Nancy Wright Whatley of Atlanta, GA. Elton spent forty years in the institutional food business, including starting his own business, Wrightway Foods. After retirement, he worked in the business office at the Blue Willow Inn. Elton was a member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church for over 40 years and is presently a member of First Baptist Church Social Circle. He was also a member of the Panthersville Masonic Lodge for over fifty years. In his free time, Elton enjoyed spending time with family and his late beloved dog, Prissy, playing golf with his special golf friends and cheering on his GA Bulldogs. In addition to his parents, Elton was preceded in death by his twin brother, Elmo, brother, Charles and sister, Helen Dennard.
Elton is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Neil and his wife Kathy; daughter, Nancy; sister, Mary Anthony; grandchildren, Mandie and Daniel Stallings, Nikki and Trevor Shaw, Andrew Whatley, Cristina Pereyo and Monica Pereyo; great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Piper, Parker and Sadie; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Friday, April 17th from 6-8 pm. The Memorial Service will be held at the First Baptist Church, 195 N. Cherokee Road, in Social Circle, Saturday, April 18th at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church Social Circle-Building Fund.
