Donald L. Dean

Donald Dean of Covington, passed away May 12, 2018, at the age of 81. The youngest of ten children, Mr. Dean was born in Blue Ridge, Georgia to Ernest Frank and Bessie Pittman Dean, who have preceded him in death. Don served in the Army from 1953 – 1956. He joined with his two nephews who were about the same age. Mr. Dean was in Fort Bragg Airborne 82nd as a paratrooper with 37 jumps to his credit. He and his two nephews were in the first jump school at Fort Bragg. In addition to owning a pizza restaurant, managing Norgas, he was a Newton County School System bus driver. Don was a fantastic storyteller with a great sense of humor, and a real gift for embellishment! He loved to fish and spent many hours on the lakes in Georgia. He treasured all children and delighted in making them laugh. In his last weeks, only little Wren could bring a smile to his face. Mr. Dean was known for his practical jokes in his younger days, loving to scare people! He was a landscaper extraordinaire; he loved to make plants and grass grow and create beautiful environments. Mr. Dean spent many happy hours in the backyard swing. He loved to socialize until recent health problems prevented that. Mr. Dean was in the infamous Mamie's Kitchen Breakfast Club, often helping Jack, the manager. He loved his wife dearly and said at her passing that she was the best partner he could have ever asked for. Mr. Dean was bereft after losing her, but found hope by putting his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. He had attended Eastridge Community Church for the past 8 years. Mr. Dean was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years Rebecca JoAnne Dean; parents; 9 siblings; daughter-in-law, Shullilah Dean.
