Kathleen Mitchell Brooking of Oxford, passed away Friday, February 15, 2019, at the age of 98. Mrs. Brooking was a supportive member of North Covington United Methodist Church for many years. In addition to her faith in God, she believed in hard work and had a strong sense of family. Mrs. Brooking happily made time for loved ones, and she especially enjoyed get-togethers that included her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her other joy in life was cooking - whether making delicious meals or baking a batch of her mouth-watering biscuits. Mrs. Brooking was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Brooking; parents, John J. and Narcie (Copeland) Mitchell; as well as her eleven siblings.
Survivors include her daughters, Norma Moody and husband, Henry, of Newnan, Peggy Stallings and dear friend, Sonny McDonald of Oxford; Gary Mashburn of Spring Hill, TN; grandchildren and their spouses, Hank and Beth Moody, Sheri and Wes Burgin, Vonda Wiebe, Mike Stallings, Chad and Karen Stallings, Amanda and Tina Lawson, Jill Gowen, Erin and Dale Hood, Scott and Kathy Mashburn, Terri Jo and Doug Biggers; 21 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Brooking will be held Monday, February 18, 2019, 1:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Dan Dixon officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, in Covington. Friends may visit with the family of Mrs. Brooking, two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Abbey Hospice, 215 Azalea Court, Social Circle, Georgia 30025.
