Ida Mae Johnson of Covington, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019, at the age of 81. Mrs. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Covington and a faithful and supportive member of Eastridge Community Church. For many years, she worked as comptroller for White's Department Stores, and after her retirement, she carved out a second career as a bookkeeper, serving many businesses and churches in the Newton County area. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband, Preston "Junior" Johnson, Jr.; granddaughter, Jessica Johnson; parents, Edward and Lois (Mask) Norman; and brother, J.B. Norman.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Sam and Kathy Johnson, Clay and Kim Johnson, all of Covington; grandchildren and their spouses, Lori Johnson, Britton and Shaner Johnson, Kaley and Andrew Atkin, Wesley Johnson; great-grandchildren, Gracelyn Atkin, Katelyn Atkin; brother and sisters-in-law, Joel and Eleanor Norman of Conyers, Patsy Norman of Covington; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Johnson will be held Thursday, March 14, 2019, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Scott Moore officiating. Interment will follow in High Point Baptist Cemetery, 12025 Highway 36, in Covington. Friends may visit with Mrs. Johnson's family at the funeral home, Wednesday, March 13, from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M.
