Judy Sams of Covington, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the age of 98. Mrs. Sams was born November 25, 1920, the eighth of nine brothers and sisters, in Watkinsville, Georgia, to the late J.O. and Eugenia Adams Lovern. She was preceded in death by her husband, James. E. Sams; son, George Edward McMullen, III, who was killed in the Vietnam War in 1975.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Sams served both her church and community in many capacities. She was a supportive member of Allen United Memorial Methodist Church, in Oxford, for over 80 years and a member of the Manning Bible Class. She worked for Peoples Drug Store, in Covington, for over 33 years. Mrs. Sams was known for being a wonderful cook and her fellow church friends would attest to her gift for baking the best chocolate pie around. Most importantly though, she loved the Lord Jesus Christ. "Well done thou good and faithful servant."
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Delores M. and Dana Hassell of Fayetteville; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Paula McMullen of Canton, David L. and Judy McMullen of Social Circle; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; special niece, Dellree Nave and her husband, Paul; as well as several other special nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service for Mrs. Sams will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2019, 11:00 AM, at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, 803 Whatcoat Street, in Oxford, with officiating Rev. Joshua J. Roberts and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. Friends may visit with the family at the church, one hour prior to her service, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.
