Obit for Johnny Lummus, Sr.

 

Johnny Lummus, Sr., of Covington, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020, at 62 years of age. Johnny was an accomplished athlete who, as a former semi-pro and professional boxer, earned a place on the United States Olympic Team, where he proudly represented his country in the 1980 Olympics. Johnny's passion for boxing was second only to his love of fishing. He was an avid fisherman and was on the water every chance he got – casting his reel and waiting for a tug on the line. Johnny was dedicated to his family and cared for them with an immense and unwavering love. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Lola (Adams) Lummus; and sister, Sue Norton.

 

Friends and family who will profoundly miss Johnny's presence, his adoring wife of 42 years, Libby Lummus; daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Kenneth Wilbanks; son, Johnny Lummus, Jr; grandchildren, Jay, Logan, Jackson, Haley; eight sisters; two brothers; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Johnny will be held Thursday, January 8, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Cortt Chavis officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington. Friends are invited to visit with his family at the funeral home, two hours prior to the service, from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Johnny's family to help with funeral expenses.
