Rickey "Rick" Hugh Spires of Covington, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at the age of 67. Rick attended First United Methodist Church of Covington. Taking his responsibilities as a husband and father seriously, he worked hard to provide for his family to ensure they were set up for success. Rick was trustworthy, selfless, always good to his word and met adversity head on. In his spare time, he enjoyed taking beach trips, shooting pool, UGA football and especially enjoyed watching his grandsons in all their sports and activities. Rick loved his wife, kids and grandkids dearly and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Burta Spires and Terresa "Pat" Spires West.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Denise Armistead Spires; sons and daughters-in-law, Russell Hugh and Joanna Spires, Jason Daniel and Carley Spires; grandchildren, Grant Spires, Nolan Spires, Carson Spires; brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Melissa Spires; sister, Roxanne Nafziger; nieces, Candi Spires, Jessica Carson; as well as many extended family members.
A Memorial Service for Rick will be held Saturday, January 25, 2020, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Chuck Salter, Brent Huckaby and Russ Spires officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, prior to his service, from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M.
