Earnest William Nichols, Sr., of Mansfield, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020, at the age of 74. Mr. Nichols was a resident of Newton County since 1990. He was an attentive family man who shared his passion for both hunting and fishing with his children, and he enjoyed a special bond with his grandchildren. Although Mr. Nichols strengths were many, it was his tendency for speaking his mind and standing strong in his beliefs that shined the brightest. He will also be remembered for his knack of giving everyone he loved and befriended their own special nickname. Mr. Nichols was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathleen Nichols; grandson, Kyle Ray Nichols; parents, Lonnie Clarence and Flora Ethel Nichols; sister, Inez Creech; and brother, Buddy Nichols.
A Graveside Service for Mr. Nichols will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2020, 11:00 A.M., at Newborn Memorial Cemetery, 128 Steve Polk Road, in Newborn, with Rev. Harold Thompson officiating. Friends may visit with the family at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, Monday, September 28, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center, Attn: FFA Wildlife Camp Banquet, 720 FFA FHA Camp Road, Covington, GA 30014.
