obit - Fred Baker

Fred Baker, of Covington, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2020, at the age of 76. Fred built a life that was anchored in simplicity and rich in old-fashioned values such as hard work, family bonding, and providing well for his loved ones. Time spent with the family he adored was most important, and one of his favorite ways to connect with his grandchildren was taking them on tractor rides. Fred could build just about anything he could imagine, and he loved to tinker with things to see what he could either fix or create. He was also known for his affinity for old cars, and his love of being outdoors - especially given the opportunity to bait a hook and hope for a tug on the line. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Jake and Louise (Sorrells) Baker; sister, Annette Durden; and brother, Donald Baker.

Fred's presence - and the memories he created along the way - will remain close in the hearts of those he loved, especially his wife, Peggie Baker; daughter and son-in-law, Angelia and Larry Hall; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Wendy Baker; grandchildren and their spouses, Brittany and Jeffrey Payton; Brandyn and Meredith Hall, Lindsey Baker, Kaytlin Baker; Savannah Baker; great-grandchildren, Tristin Hall, Koralee Hester, Reed Hester, Kash Hester; sister, Betty Owensby; sister-in-law, Diane Mitchell Baker; brother-in-law, Joe Durden; as well as several nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service for Fred will be held Sunday, September 27, 2020, 2:00 P.M., at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Debbie Giles and Pastor Lynn Head officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park, Covington. Friends are invited to visit with his family Saturday, September 26, from 6:00 – 9:00 P.M.
