Lula was born August 3, 1926, in Jefferson County to Walter Cox & Sally Holton Cox. Lula graduated high school in 1943 and went on to UGA where she received a degree in business, which began her many endeavors.

On June 15, 1943, Lula married Bill Vaughn, it was a beautiful home wedding with a scorching temperature of 102 in the shade, she went to work at the Royston Bus station and western union in. In 1944 Lula attended Athens business college and received a degree in business, after completing college she accepted a job at TY Cobb memorial hospital in Royston. In 1949 Lula moved to Gainesville, Ga and accepted a position as an assistant bookkeeper for a Pontiac dealership. Later on, she worked for Liberty Finance, where she was keeping books for 13 finance companies. While working Lula attended school to obtain her A/H license and also attended tax school.

On June 20th, 1952, Lula gave birth to a son Wayne Harrison Vaughn (the light of her life) Then in 1954 the relocated to Covington Ga, and 4 days later she joined

the First Baptist Church of Covington, she continued to work for Liberty Finance and eventually opened her own finance company known as Newton finance, where she worked many hours, taught finance classes in several surrounding cities as she was determined to have a successful life. Susan Elaine Benton Obituary

Susan Elaine White Benton, of Jackson Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the age of 73. Her husband of almost 54 years, Bobby Benton, was at her side holding her hand as she entered into the presence of the Lord. Susan and her husband were members of Rock Springs Presbyterian Church for 47 years, where she served in the choir, participated in Meals on Wheels, served together in the homeless ministry and the Nativity Scene ministry. More recently they were members at Sardis Baptist Church in Jackson Georgia. Susan took every opportunity she could to share the Lord through her ministry of singing and her specialty was The Lord's Prayer.

Susan grew up loving animals, specifically cats and horses. She owned a number of horses in her lifetime. Susan had a tremendous love for reading and up until her eyesight failed her she could often be found with her nose in a book. Susan was a gifted artist and after high school attended art school for a time. In her younger years Susan enjoyed crocheting many beautiful pieces. Susan's most important role in life was being a mother and wife but she also served as a Preschool arts and crafts teacher at Rock Springs Kids Day Out Program. Susan and Bobby served as faithful caregivers for her mother for many years. Susan and Bobby were huge Elvis fans and in recent years would spend many hours together listening to Elvis music and documentaries in front of the computer. Susan was always up for a good yard sale or trip to Goodwill and loved showing off the treasures she would find. She had her own sense of style and was great at putting cute outfits together which people always commented on when she was out.

Susan and Bobby shared a love for each other that most rarely find. From their first meeting at Lenox Square they were inseparable and would celebrate the day they met for many years after by revisiting that same location and meeting each other all over again. Susan and Bobby celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by renewing their vows at Sardis Baptist Church.

Susans pride and joy was her family. Having received a kidney, donated by her sister Marsha Curtis, allowed her to enjoy 18 more years with the family she held so dear. Susan is preceded in death by her grandson, Devin Haynes; and parents, Raymond Claude and Dorothy Marie Botdorf White.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Benton; daughters, Michele Benton, Maura Haynes (David); grandchildren, Michael Benton (Megan), Destiny Haynes (Dominic), Dustin Haynes; great-grandchildren, Madison Benton, Morgan Benton; sister, Marsha Curtis (Rick); many extended family and her caregivers, Brandy Hawkins and Paula Houston.

Susan faced many health challenges throughout her life here on earth but handled it with grace. We are confident that she is healed in full and is singing with the angels choir in the presence of her Heavenly Father…and of course Elvis Presley!

A Graveside Service for Susan will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021, 1:00 P.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Ken McKenzie officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, one hour prior to her service from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 P.M.

Guy Ronald "Ron" Barker

Guy Ronald "Ron" Barker was born in Atlanta, Ga on 2/25/1937 and went to be with his Lord and Savior on 12/10/2021. Ron grew up in Grant Park and attended Roosevelt High School in Atlanta.

He spent 28 years in the Navy. His first duty station was San Diego, where he attended a small SBC church, and he met a girl. He always told the story that when he saw her, he said was going to marry her, this was in 1960, on the 19th of this month Ron and Sharon would have been married 61 wonderful years.  They lived in 4 different countries and together they visited over 15 countries. Everywhere he went he went, he was intentional about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. He retired in 1984 as a Senior Chief Radioman.

He loved to spend time with his "bride", his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, go to church, work crossword puzzles, eat on Wednesdays with his church buddies, and go for walks. He wouldn't want this to be about him, but he would want all to know that before you exit this life, the only thing that truly matters is having a saving relationship with Jesus Christ for He is the only way to heaven-this means intimately knowing him, not simply knowing facts about him.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Paul, and Nettie Barker, three older brothers, Gerald, Bobby, and Jimmy, a daughter, Donna Rudder, and a son Jay Barker.
