Susan Elaine Benton Obituary

Susan Elaine White Benton, of Jackson Georgia, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at the age of 73. Her husband of almost 54 years, Bobby Benton, was at her side holding her hand as she entered into the presence of the Lord. Susan and her husband were members of Rock Springs Presbyterian Church for 47 years, where she served in the choir, participated in Meals on Wheels, served together in the homeless ministry and the Nativity Scene ministry. More recently they were members at Sardis Baptist Church in Jackson Georgia. Susan took every opportunity she could to share the Lord through her ministry of singing and her specialty was The Lord's Prayer.

Susan grew up loving animals, specifically cats and horses. She owned a number of horses in her lifetime. Susan had a tremendous love for reading and up until her eyesight failed her she could often be found with her nose in a book. Susan was a gifted artist and after high school attended art school for a time. In her younger years Susan enjoyed crocheting many beautiful pieces. Susan's most important role in life was being a mother and wife but she also served as a Preschool arts and crafts teacher at Rock Springs Kids Day Out Program. Susan and Bobby served as faithful caregivers for her mother for many years. Susan and Bobby were huge Elvis fans and in recent years would spend many hours together listening to Elvis music and documentaries in front of the computer. Susan was always up for a good yard sale or trip to Goodwill and loved showing off the treasures she would find. She had her own sense of style and was great at putting cute outfits together which people always commented on when she was out.

Susan and Bobby shared a love for each other that most rarely find. From their first meeting at Lenox Square they were inseparable and would celebrate the day they met for many years after by revisiting that same location and meeting each other all over again. Susan and Bobby celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by renewing their vows at Sardis Baptist Church.

Susans pride and joy was her family. Having received a kidney, donated by her sister Marsha Curtis, allowed her to enjoy 18 more years with the family she held so dear. Susan is preceded in death by her grandson, Devin Haynes; and parents, Raymond Claude and Dorothy Marie Botdorf White.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Benton; daughters, Michele Benton, Maura Haynes (David); grandchildren, Michael Benton (Megan), Destiny Haynes (Dominic), Dustin Haynes; great-grandchildren, Madison Benton, Morgan Benton; sister, Marsha Curtis (Rick); many extended family and her caregivers, Brandy Hawkins and Paula Houston.

Susan faced many health challenges throughout her life here on earth but handled it with grace. We are confident that she is healed in full and is singing with the angels choir in the presence of her Heavenly Father…and of course Elvis Presley!

A Graveside Service for Susan will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021, 1:00 P.M., at Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Dr. Ken McKenzie officiating.
