Joey Courchaine of Covington, passed away February 2, 2021, at the age of 64. A resident of Covington for over 50 years, Mr. Courchaine was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church where he taught Sunday School classes. He was the District Deputy of Knights of Columbus, past Grand Knight for the Virgin Mary Council, and past president of the Newton Lions Club where he was incredibly involved. Mr. Courchaine was an employee for the state of Georgia as a contractor, and for the last twenty plus years, was a dedicated employee of the Department of Driver Services. He enjoyed his daily 5–7-mile walks around town and traveling to the beach. Mr. Courchaine was active in coaching all sports that his children were involved in and his family and friends will remember him always having a smile on his face, laughing, and being the life of the party wherever he was. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Frances and Constance (D-Andrea) Courchaine; and brother, Lewis Courchaine.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 26 years, Lucy Courchaine; daughter Jordan Courchaine; sons and daughter-in-law, John Thigpen, Joseph and Stephanie Thigpen, Matthew Courchaine; grandchildren, Hallie, John, Mila; sisters and brothers-in-law, Angela and Danny Dainilovich, Teresa and Carlton Winn, Delores and Wade Smith, Andrea Harvan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve and Lynn Courchaine, Paul and Susan Courchaine; step-mother, Geri Courchaine; step-sisters, Tonya Erwin, Vernie Erwin, Debbie Oscarson; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass for Mr. Courchaine will be held Friday, February 5, 2021, 12 Noon, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 11524 Highway 278, in Covington, with Father Roberto A. Orellana officiating. A private burial will be held at Honey Creek Woodlands.
CDC guidelines recommend social distancing (6 feet apart) and wearing of masks while in public. A max of 70 people are allowed in St. Augustine Catholic Church at one time.
