Jackquelyn Ann "Jacque" Russell

Jackquelyn Ann "Jacque" Russell of Covington, passed away March 29, 2015, at the age of 66.  She was a member of Allen Memorial United Methodist Church for many years.  She enjoyed quilting, sewing and participating in various ministry opportunities within the church.  Additionally, Jacque was a member of the Red Hat Society, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Gwinnett Historical Society.  She was preceded in death by her father, Wilburn Russell; brother, John Robert Russell.

 

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jenna Lind and Randy Williams of Gainesville, Kimberly Irene and Randy Parks of Dallas, Shannon Gillmore and Bryan Higginbotham of Toccoa; son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Kimberly Gillmore of Tucker; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; mother, Hazel Cordell; brothers, Larry Wilburn Russell, Charles Samuel Russell, Zachery Harold Russell; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Jacque will be held Thursday, April 2, 2015, 3:00 PM, at the chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Brian Dale officiating and interment following in Covington City Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior to the service, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the United Methodist Women at Allen Memorial United Methodist Church, PO Box 117, Oxford, Ga  30025.

Jody Woody Spencer obit

Joey Woody Spencer of Covington, passed away March 24, 2015, at the age of 38. Joey was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his father, Garland Woody.

 

Survivors include his daughter, Nikiah Woody; son, Dalton Woody; mother and step-father, Shirley J. and George Spencer; brother, Jody Woody; sisters, Kathy Silvers, Kimberly Mann; several nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 28, 2015, from 1:00 until 3:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Joey will be cremated following visitation.

 

Cora Branham obit

Cora Winifred Chambliss Branham of Oxford GA, passed away March 26, 2015, at the age of 91. Mrs. Branham grew up in Macon, GA and moved to Oxford, GA in 1959.  Cora especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandson. One of her favorite past times was enjoying a nice glass of wine while rocking on her front porch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Singleton Branham, Jr.; her parents, Green and Lula Chambliss; her sister, Margaret Albert; her brothers, Forrest and Charles Chambliss

 

Survivors include her daughters, Lynn Branham Bohanan of Oxford, GA, Karen Branham Reagin of Covington GA; son, Joseph S. Branham, III and his wife, Rose of Rome GA; grandchildren, Sara Yun San Reese and her husband, Bryan of New York City, NY, Hannah Bohanan Maynard and her husband, Timothy of Covington GA, Emma Loren Bohanan and Lydia Ashelyn Bohanan, both of Oxford GA; great-grandson, Cason Lee Maynard of Covington GA; several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Violet Head

Violet Head of Covington, passed away March 24, 2015, at the age of 86. Mrs. Head was a faithful member of County Line Baptist Church. She was an exemplary Christian woman, who was faithful in studying God's Word and always willing to take care of others. She was a dedicated employee of Bibb Manufacturing Co., of which she retired after several years of service. Mrs. Head loved her family, her church family, neighbors and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, T.C. Head; and her daughters, Kathleen Head and Carolyn Farnham.

 

Survivors include her grandson, Cody Head; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Head will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, with Rev. J. Felton Farmer

Felton Farmer, of Covington, passed away March 25, 2015, at the age of 86.  Mr. Farmer had been a member of Walnut Grove Baptist Church since 1976.   He worked for Gober Concrete Company for 21 years, and in 1992 he retired from Newton County, where he worked as a dump truck driver.  After his retirement, he went to work part-time for NAPA Auto Parts.  Mr. Farmer enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling with his beloved wife, and going out to eat with family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his son, Barry Wayne Farmer; parents, Eugene and Ida Bell Farmer; and sister, Barbara Jean Young.

 

Mr. Farmer is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lillian Farmer; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Corrie Hewell, Connie and David Wright; 4 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Obit - Tommy Bowers

Tommy Bowers, age 66, of Social Circle, passed away March 23, 2015. He and his wife, Margie, started Bowers Fabrication Service, in 1982, with a pick-up truck and a welder and grew it to a 50,000 square foot under roof state-of-the-art facility with 30 employees. Additionally, Tommy raised an extensive cattle farm with all types of animals. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a master gardener. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, and he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lucile (Fortenberry) Bowers.

 

Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Margie Bowers of Social Circle; daughter and son-in-law, Sheri and Kevin Simpson; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Angela Bowers, all of Oxford; grandchildren, Christopher Bowers and wife, Amanda, Katelyn Bowers, Kellan Simpson, Greer Simpson, Shea Simpson; sisters, Geneva Pitman, Dorothy Gregory, Charlotte Beavers, Angie Dokos; brother, Melvin Bowers; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Pamela Head Connell

Pamela Head Connell of Madison, passed away March 23, 2015, at the age of 55. Pamela was a 1977 graduate of Loganville High School. She was currently employed by Thrifty Mac Pharmacy, in Madison, where she enjoyed creating friendships with the customers. She never met a stranger and had several friends whom she cherished deeply. Pamela was an avid UGA football fan and enjoyed all types of crafts. She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Edna Mae Head; sister, Sharon Gail Head Kendricks; and her father-in-law, Lloyd F. Connell.

 

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, David Connell; son, Christopher David Connell; sister, Wanda Ann Head; brother, Hurel Eugene Head; nephew, John David Beaucaire; and her mother-in-law, Betty P. Connell.

Taylor Marie Klebba of Jersey, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2015, at the age of 22. Taylor was a wonderful daughter, loved her family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. Taylor enjoyed writing, dancing, listening to Elvis Presley, watching Vincent Price movies and adored animals. She graduated from Social Circle High School with honors in the top 10 of her class. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Herbert Hess.

Carl Louis Boyles of Eatonton, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at the age of 69. Mr. Boyles loved and adored his family and friends. Sara N. Loyd of Covington, passed away March 18, 2015, at the age of 80. Mrs. Loyd was a member of Stewart Baptist Church for over 60 years. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, they have toured all 50 states together. Mrs. Loyd's favorite state to visit was South Dakota, but she also enjoyed going to Las Vegas, Alabama and Mississippi for entertainment. She had a special bond with her grandson, Wil, teaching him to drive, going to lunch and shopping. Additionally, she enjoyed watching and cheering for her granddaughter, Tamela, as she played fast-pitch softball. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Emma Mae Norman; sister, Annie Roberts; brothers, Edward, Lubie, Harold, Herbert and Luke Norman.

Shirley M. Leonard

Shirley M. Leonard of Mansfield passed away March 15, 2015.  A memorial service for Mrs. Leonard will be held at a later date.

James Holg (Jim) Jenkins, Sr.

James Holt (Jim) Jenkins, Sr., of Covington, passed away March 16, 2015, at the age of 77.  Mr. Jenkins owned and operated Jenkins Grocery and Gas for 18 years.  He was a veteran of US Army, serving for 5 years.  While running his store, he also raised cattle and hay.  Mr. Jenkins was an insurance crop adjuster with the USDA for 5 years.  He was instrumental in bringing VFW Post 2933 to Covington.  Mr. Jenkins was a member of BPOE #1806.  He was also a member of Eastridge Community Church.  Drinking coffee and telling stories with his family and friends was a big part of his life. Mr. Jenkins will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and cherished uncle.  He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Watson Jenkins, Sr. and Elizabeth Ruth Holt Jenkins, twin sister, Jane Grace Slaton and brother, Thomas Watson Jenkins, Jr.

Obit - Kevin Paul Pudwill

Kevin Paul Pudwill of Covington, GA, passed away March 17, 2015, at the age of 56. Kevin was a veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed reading, studying history, watching NASCAR, cooking and traveling to the beach where he admired the sunrises and sunsets. Additionally, he cherished the time he spent with his friends – especially his beloved friend of 24 years, Regina. He was preceded in death by his mother, Delores Pudwill; and his brother, Todd Pudwill.

Larisa Tentyuk

Larisa Tentyuk, of Covington, passed away March 15, 2016, at the age of 58.  Mrs. Tentyuk loved Jesus and set a good example for everyone.  She cherished her immediate and extended family and enjoyed caring for them.  Mrs. Tentyuk will be greatly missed, but her family takes comfort in knowing that she is in Paradise with God.  Her family considers themselves blessed to have had such a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and they thank God for her life.

Edna Carnes of Covington, passed away March 14, 2015, at the age of 82. Mrs. Carnes attended Happy Valley Church in Tennessee. She was an avid reader of The Bible. A loving and caring mother, grandmother, and friend, she was always willing to help anyone in need. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was especially known for her 7-up pound cake. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted R. Carnes; her son, Barry Carnes; her parents, Harley and Minnie (Welch) Burnette.

Barbara Ann Wilcox of Covington, passed away March 13, 2015, at the age of 66. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to the beach, and listening to the ebb and flow of the tide. Her favorite pastime was reading murder mysteries. She was preceded in death by her son, Adam Wilcox; and her parents, Fred and Emma (Bollegar) Moran.

Obit - Delores "Dee" Gudgen

Delores "Dee" Gudgen of Covington, passed away March 13, 2015, at the age of 67. She enjoyed hunting for antiques, flower and vegetable gardening, canning vegetables and traveling to the beach and fishing with her husband. Dee was very artistic and creative, and she will be remembered for her imaginative care packages. She treasured pictures of her family as they were her priority. Dee was cherished by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew C. Bennett and Freda Farmer; sister, Yvonne Evans.

 

Survivors include her husband, Darrel Gudgen; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Alan Coon; grandchildren, Christopher Sipes, Courtney Sipes, John Villagomez; great-grandson, Ayden Sipes; brother, Bruce Cook; and her half-sister, Lisa Grindle.

 

Funeral Services for Dee will be held March 15, 2015, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Danny Newbern officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Mabel A. Bone obit

Mabel A. Bone of Rutledge, passed away March 13, 2015, at the age of 95. She loved to spend time in her yard tending to her flowers. Additionally, she enjoyed traveling, sewing, quilting, and playing the organ. Mrs. Bone will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, C.L. Bone; parents, Elisha and Annie Studdard Allen; grandson, Kevin A. Bone; brother, Rev. Robert Allen.

 

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-laws, Joel A. and Cindy Bone of Rutledge, Rev. Robert Lewis Obit

Robert Lewis of Covington, passed away March 11, 2015, at the age of 57. Robert was a Staff Sergeant in the Army with Military Honors. He enjoyed life, never met a stranger, and had a great sense of humor. Robert loved working in his yard and going fishing. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby C. Lewis.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Rachael Lewis and her fiancé, Kyle Holmes, of Gray, Rebecca Lewis of Gray; son, Daniel Lewis of Gray; mother and step-father, Maudine and Fran Faxon of Social Circle; sister and brother-in-law, Renee and Glen Criswell of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tony and Terrie Lewis of Monticello, Russell and Sharrell Lewis of Macon; granddaughters, Addison Lewis and Crislynn Holmes.

Mike Garland

Mike Garland of Covington, died March 7, 2015, at the age of 56. Mike was a former employee of Golden State Foods. He was a long time parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church, and lived a very quiet, reflective, prayerful life. He was a loving father, brother and uncle, and a caring and giving friend who was always willing to help those in need.  Mike was preceded in death by his daughter, Janelle Garland; and his parents, Salvatore and Jacqueline (Vallett) Garland.

 

Survivors include his son, Michael Garland of Boston, MA; grandson, Shawn Garland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rebecca and Jeff Hinson of Social Circle, Susan and Craig Baxter of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Salvatore Garland, Jr., of Covington, Anthony and Leah Garland of Suwanee, John and Mary Paul Garland of Knightdale, NC; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Mass for Mike will be held Friday, March 13, 2015, 11:00 AM, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 11524 U.S. Highway 278, in Covington, with Father Roberto Herrera officiating, and interment following in New Covington Cemetery. Obit - Grace Twitty Bryant

Grace Twitty Bryant of Conyers, GA, passed away March 3, 2015, at the age of 79. Mrs. Bryant was born and raised in Sebring, Florida, and was a 1953 graduate of Sebring High School, where she played the clarinet in the marching band and was on the cheerleading squad. She furthered her education at the University of Tennessee – Knoxville, where she obtained her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and was a proud member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Mrs. Bryant married the love of her life, Charlie, in 1960, and together lived in the Atlanta and Nashville areas before making their home in Conyers in 1972. Grace was a member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and ladies' trio. She also sang in the Conyers-Covington Choral Guild for several years until she was no longer able. An active member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution - Col. John McIntosh, Conyers Chapter, she served as the National Defense Chairman. Additionally, she was a charter member of the Colonel Dames 17th Century - Mary Brown Tinkham - Conyers Chapter. Grace was a skilled artist enjoying painting, needlework and sewing and was also quite the golfer. She played locally and at many beautiful courses worldwide. She studied family genealogy as a hobby and also enjoyed traveling the world with Charlie. Her bridge group of dear friends was a regular event for Grace. She also kept ties with her Sebring girlfriends that she had known since Kindergarten! They went on numerous girls' getaways together. A musician as well, she played the clarinet, piano and flute. Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by her loving husband, Charlie Bryant; daughter, Laurie Bryant; and her sister, Mary Belle Gremp.

 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jeff Greenich; grandchildren, Laura Greenich, Jimmy Greenich, Charlie Greenich, Gracie Greenich, all of Covington; brother-in-law, Bob Gremp of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews; as well as her beloved Ragdoll kitty, Buffy, whom she adored.

 

Funeral Services for Mrs. Bryant will be held Saturday, March 14, 2015, 2:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church, 1169 Clark Street, in Covington, GA, with Rev. Beth Dameron officiating, and interment following in Green Meadow Memorial Gardens, in Conyers, GA. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, GA, Friday, March 13, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.
