Mike Garland of Covington, died March 7, 2015, at the age of 56. Mike was a former employee of Golden State Foods. He was a long time parishioner of St. Augustine Catholic Church, and lived a very quiet, reflective, prayerful life. He was a loving father, brother and uncle, and a caring and giving friend who was always willing to help those in need. Mike was preceded in death by his daughter, Janelle Garland; and his parents, Salvatore and Jacqueline (Vallett) Garland.
Survivors include his son, Michael Garland of Boston, MA; grandson, Shawn Garland; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rebecca and Jeff Hinson of Social Circle, Susan and Craig Baxter of Covington; brothers and sisters-in-law, Salvatore Garland, Jr., of Covington, Anthony and Leah Garland of Suwanee, John and Mary Paul Garland of Knightdale, NC; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass for Mike will be held Friday, March 13, 2015, 11:00 AM, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 11524 U.S. Highway 278, in Covington, with Father Roberto Herrera officiating, and interment following in New Covington Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, Covington, Thursday, March 12, from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the Spondylitis Association of America, PO Box 5872, Sherman Oaks, CA 91413.
