James Holg (Jim) Jenkins, Sr.

James Holt (Jim) Jenkins, Sr., of Covington, passed away March 16, 2015, at the age of 77.  Mr. Jenkins owned and operated Jenkins Grocery and Gas for 18 years.  He was a veteran of US Army, serving for 5 years.  While running his store, he also raised cattle and hay.  Mr. Jenkins was an insurance crop adjuster with the USDA for 5 years.  He was instrumental in bringing VFW Post 2933 to Covington.  Mr. Jenkins was a member of BPOE #1806.  He was also a member of Eastridge Community Church.  Drinking coffee and telling stories with his family and friends was a big part of his life. Mr. Jenkins will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and cherished uncle.  He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Watson Jenkins, Sr. and Elizabeth Ruth Holt Jenkins, twin sister, Jane Grace Slaton and brother, Thomas Watson Jenkins, Jr.

 

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Shannon Jenkins of Covington; daughter and son-in-law, Shane and Angela Jenkins Evans of Pine Log, GA; son and daughter-in-law, James H., Jr. and Angela Jenkins of Walnut Grove; grandchildren, Addie Ann Evans, Lucy Maybern Evans, Matthew David Jenkins, Sarah Elizabeth Jenkins, Jacob Davis Jenkins, Justin Lee Cantrell, Dakota Leanne Cantrell; sisters, Emma Jo Burke of Morrow, Sara Cook of Greenville, Mary Culberson of Anderson, SC; life-long friends, Gene and Vivian Stephens of High Falls; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Donna Monk of Social Circle; as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Jenkins will be held Friday, March 20, 2015, 2:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Terry Carter officiating.  Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, March 19, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
