Joyce Mathis of Covington, passed away, Friday, December 9, 2016, at the age of 77. Mrs. Mathis was a devoted family woman – her grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to her. She was especially fond of being with loved ones at the holidays. Mrs. Mathis enjoyed spending time in nature - be it camping, going to the mountains or bird-feeding. She was known for making gravy biscuits, and loved to dance. Mrs. Mathis had an infectious personality, never being one to meet a stranger. She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel C Mathis; parents, Frank Herring and Annie Bell Herring; sisters, Myrtice Singley, Nellie Durdan, Francina Laxson; Brother Herring
Survivors include her daughter and son in law, Louanne Norwood and David Stargel; sons and daughter-in-law, Stacy and Esther Willard, Toby Willard, all of Covington; grandchildren, Kimbo and Adam Redmond, Kendra Willard, Trey Willard, Tiffany Willard, Zach Hutcheson, great-grandchildren, Emory Willard, Dylan Willard, Aden Redman, Rylee Hutcheson; sisters, Cathrine Mcray, Dorothy Tally, Lillie Grace Womack, all of Covington, Mary Dell Reynolds, of Warner Robbins; brother and sister in law, JA and Glenda Herring of Rome; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Mathis will be held Monday, December 12, 2016, 3:00 PM, at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington with Chaplin Jim Ross officiating and internment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday, December 11, from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, and Monday, December 12, two hours prior to her service, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Memorial Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
