Chole Elizabeth Garroutte of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away December 23, 2016, at the age of 97. Mrs. Garroutte, the eldest of seven, lost her leg at the young age of 17 while protecting her siblings during a tragic accident. During WWII, Mrs. Garroutte worked for Boeing Aircraft Company making airplane parts. When her children were young, she was involved with both the Boy Scouts, and the Girl Scouts. Mrs. Garroutte was very active in her church, Westside Baptist Church in Muscogee, OK. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Mrs. Garroutte was of strong will and opinion, remaining independent through the latter years of her life, even after losing her sight. Preceding her in death was her husband, Robert Anderson Garroutte; sons, Charles Spears, Donald Eubanks; step-son, Robert Ray Garroutte; parents, Herbert Cornelius and Dovie Mae (Holland) Westbrook.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Ancel Bailey of Blairsville, GA, Nancy and Fred Selvage of Bear, DE; sons, Jimmy Eubanks of Bouthwyn, PA, Robert (Bobby) Garroutte, Jr., Shannon, NC; 14 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Cryptside Service for Mrs. Garroutte will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2016, 1:00 PM, at the Memory Chapel Mausoleum in Lawnwood Memorial Park, 1111 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor John Davis officiating. Friends may visit with her family, one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 Noon – 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Blairsville Church of God Building Fund, 110 Church of God Drive, Blairsville, GA, 30512.
