Obit - Charles Jackson

Mr. Charles J. Jackson, also affectionately known as C.J., passed away at his residence in Covington Saturday April 15, 2017, at 63.  He was born on April 16, 1953 in Phenix City, AL to the late Robert Cyril Jackson and Hollie Christine Jackson.  He graduated from Columbia High School in Decatur, Georgia in 1971.  He was married in 1975 to Deborah Jackson as they later made their home in Covington, Georgia with their three children.

Charles enjoyed multiple activities throughout his life including fishing and dancing, but without a doubt, his greatest passion was his love for music and songwriting.  He had been writing songs since his teens and continued until his last days.  He could often be seen with pen and paper in hand, or whatever he had available to write on, as he was certain to get his words down as they struck him.  Charles made multiple treks to Nashville, and while he never made it to the "big time", he achieved various awards and accolades, including having one of his songs showcased at the famous Bluebird Café.

Charles also spent many years actively serving at Gaithers United Methodist Church in different aspects, but he particularly enjoyed his time serving as youth leader.  It was his joy to tell others his story of salvation and lead young people to know Christ.

Charles was a dedicated and hard worker.  He began working at the age of 14 and held various manufacturing jobs, rarely ever missing a day of work.   His most recent position was at Isonova Technologies in Social Circle, GA.

Charles is survived by his three children, daughter Decha Millwood of Greensboro, son and daughter-in-law Jeremy and Mai Jackson of Covington, and daughter and son-in-law Ashley and Matthew Lawson of Covington; the loving mother of his children, Deborah Jackson of Covington; his sisters and brothers-in law Linda and Butch Betts and Lisa and Bud Smith all of Covington; six grandchildren, Logan and Jackson Millwood of Greensboro, Isa and Saya Jackson of Covington, and Kelsey and Annistyn Lawson of Covington; numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.  He was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Kathryn Limuti; and his nephew, Jason Betts.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, on Friday, April 21st from 5:00-7:00 P.M.  A celebration of Charles's life will be held at the Access Road Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Saturday, April 22nd at 11:00 A.M.  The family will receive friends and relatives for food and fellowship after the service at the home of Matt and Ashley Lawson on Dearing St.
