obit for Jacob Matthew Lowes


Jacob Matthew Lowes, age 26, of Covington, passed away April 10, 2017, while vacationing in Cambodia. In 2009, he graduated from Eastside High School with a double diploma with honors. After high school, he began his college career at Columbus State University, but soon transferred to University of Memphis who recruited him for his outstanding cheerleading abilities. While at Columbus State, he became an active member of Kappa Sigma. At University of Memphis, he continued his service as Kappa Sigma brother and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Communications and Fine Arts.  Jacob was an eight-year veteran of the Universal Cheerleading Association - recognized worldwide for their incredible leadership and training programs. After much hard work and dedication, he became a head instructor at UCA. In February 2016, Jacob began his career with Delta Airlines where he was able to serve others while traveling the world. He lived an amazing life of adventure and excitement. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, James and Veda Smith; paternal grandmother, Mary V. Hallstrom; paternal grandfather, Edward Pevell Lowes; and his uncle, Donald Ray Smith.

 

Survivors include his loving and devoted life partner, Jake Barman of Salt Lake City, UT; mother, Trish Smith of Covington; father, Scott Lowes, Sr. of Oxford; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rachael and Adam Brunell of Covington, Tanya Baker of Buford, Jamie Thomas of Perdido Key, FL, Christy Lee and Jon Faircloth of Lilburn; brothers, Jesse Smith of Panama City Beach, FL, James Thomas of Detroit, MI, Scotty Lowes, Jr., of Covington; as well as more than 27 nieces and nephews.

 

A Celebration of Jacob's Life will be held Saturday, April 22, 2017, 2:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The celebration will continue as Jacob's family and friends will gather at 5 Hard Labor Creek State Park, in Social Circle, GA, at 5:00 PM. Friends may visit with Jacob's family Friday, April 21, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memory of Jacob, to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital – Memorial Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
