Jeremy Roden Stephen

Jeremy Stephen Roden, of Covington, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the age of 49.

One warm August day in 1972 a very small baby was born three months early. There was only one hospital in Georgia (Grady Hospital) that could save his life. A hospital that saved premature babies. Jeremy was born at 3 pounds 6 ounces and lost down to 2 pound 14 ounces. That baby was Jeremy Stephen Roden!

Jeremy was so loved by everyone. He had a family that loved him dearly. He leaves behind two beautiful kids, Jacob and Allie; a broken mother, Cherie Mitchell; step-father, Martin McDaniel; and step-father, Tommy Smith; sister, Julie Ramey (Mike); nephews, Patrick and Josh; unlimited friends including but not limited to "Cookie" Gary Cook, special brotherly friend.

There are no words to describe the pain of losing Jeremy. He was well-loved by everyone at his work at the City of Covington, where he worked for about 20 years and had just gotten a promotion to Natural Gas Project Coordinator. He located all of the meters in Newton County and put them on a map along with a massive number of other projects there. He was in charge of the gas to lots of the new big businesses coming to Newton County.

His passion for music was endless. His musical talents began at the age of three, when he learned to sing every word to Jefferson Starship's song "Miracles". He wrote, recorded and copyrighted all his music and played the instruments and sang on each song. He was in the middle of recording a new album when he went to Heaven. His musical passion stayed with him all of his short life. I guess now he can play the guitar with his beautiful music to his daddy, uncle Larry and his grandmother and grandfather in Heaven.

My heart is broken with the sadness that only a mother can feel when she realizes that she will never talk to her sweet son again that helped to keep her alive the year before when it was so hard for her to keep going. As the reality of the painful truth sets in, life will never be the same without the love of Jeremy and the beautiful songs that he would write and sing to me. I will see you again one day. Wish you had stayed longer.
