William "Dud" Childers, Jr.

OBITUARY

 

William "Dud" Childers, Jr., of Oxford, passed away Monday, March 14, 2022, at the age of 99. Mr. Childers was a well-known community leader, always giving back to his community and donating his time to help with Meals on Wheels. He was a member of Julia A. Porter Methodist Church, Oxford City Counsel for several years, the Lions Club, and one of the pioneers of the little league baseball in Newton County. Having a servant's heart, Mr. Childers pastored many churches where he was always available to do what needed to be done. In addition, he led singing at churches and at the Benton House every week. Mr. Childers loved his family and the time he spent with them. He led a full life, and his motto was "keep moving and never stop" which he did all the way to the end. Mr. Childers will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Childers; daughter, Evelyn Piotrowski; sisters, Marjorie Reynolds, Doris Brown; and brothers, Jack Childers, Dan Childers.

 

Survivors include his daughters, Robbin Elder (Oral), Leila Emanuel; sons, Ricky Childers, Billy Childers (Theresa); 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

A Funeral Service for Mr. Childers will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022, 2:00 P.M., at Julia A. Porter United Methodist Church, 3 Cotton Street, in Porterdale, with Pastor Roger Cato, Larry Evans, and Rev. Tom Johnson officiating and entombment following at Memory Chapel Mausoleum in Lawnwood Memorial Park. Friends are invited to visit with the family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, Wednesday, March 16, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
