obit - Robert E. "Buddy" McGiboney

Robert E. "Buddy" McGiboney of Covington, passed away June 16, 2015, at the age of 81.  He retired from General Motors after more than 33 years of service, and was also a retired volunteer fireman, having dedicated 25 years to the City of Covington. Additionally, he was a part-time cattle farmer with his brother-in-law, Henry Parker. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Buddy enjoyed camping, traveling, bingo and playing on the riverboats. He relished spending time outdoors, working in his yard, and especially loved sitting on his front porch watching the birds he felt he must feed daily. No matter where he was, he never missed the 4th of July fireworks celebration! He was loved by all who knew him and will forever be missed by his family and friends. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Francis McGiboney; brother and sisters-in-law, J.T. "Red" and Jackie McGiboney, Laverne McGiboney, Edith Parker; brother-in-law, Franklin Bramlett.

 

Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Martha B. McGiboney; sons and daughter-in-law, Eddie McGiboney, Mike and Rebecca McGiboney; grandsons, Alan McGiboney and his wife, Megan, Eddie George and his wife, Heather; great-grandchildren, Curren McGiboney, Caroline McGiboney, Landon George; sister and brothers-in-law, Vicky and Dan Harris, Henry Parker; brother, Ronnie McGiboney; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Buddy will be held Friday, June 19, 2015, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Pastor Gary Thompson officiating and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, June 18, from 7:00 – 9:00 PM.
