Henry Butler, of Covington, passed away Monday, June 3, 2019, at the age of 81. Mr. Butler was a supportive and active member of Canaan Baptist Church for over 39 years. He worked with several ministry efforts which included usher, deacon and driver and mechanic for the bus ministry. He loved taking members of the senior group on their trips. Equally important to Mr. Butler was his role as a devoted family man, retiring early so he could provide care and support for his wife, Peggy Joyce, during her battle with multiple sclerosis. As his wife's condition deteriorated, Mr. Butler assumed all responsibilities that would typically fall on a mother. When not attending to his wife and children, he worked from home repairing lawn equipment and household appliances for many members of the community. Mr. Butler was a passionate NASCAR fan who followed closely the careers of both Tony Stewart and Chase Elliot. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Joyce Butler; son, Jeff Butler; parents, Crawford Henry and Ruby Butler.
Mr. Butler will be lovingly and fondly remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Nancy Butler of Macon; daughter-in-law, Gloria Butler of Covington; grandchildren, Morgan Butler of Forsyth, Payton Butler of Kennesaw, Jared Butler and his wife, Kimberly, of Flowery Branch, Jacob Butler of Covington, Zachary Butler, Owen Huggins, Merit Huggins, all of Macon; as well as great-granddaughter, Karoline Butler of Flowery Branch.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Butler will be held Thursday, June 6, 2019, 10:00 AM, at Canaan Baptist Church, 5581 Salem Road, in Covington with Dr. Scott Caudill officiating. Interment will follow in Lawnwood Memorial Park in Covington. Friends are invited to visit with his family at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, Wednesday, June 5, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM.
