David Alston Johnson

David Alston Johnson, of Conyers, passed away December 20, 2014, at the age of 66.  Mr. Johnson farmed with his father until he enlisted in the US Army in 1966, completing three tours of duty in Vietnam.  He enjoyed fishing, especially saltwater, and deer hunting, and loved his dog, Peanut Butter.  Mr. Johnson worked a total of 40 years as a Grade Foreman and Superintendent for Southern Pavers, Ashland Petroleum and Construction, and Pittman Construction.  He was a member of Apostolic Community Church.  Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, James Bunyon and Sararuth (Sprayberry) Johnson, as well as a brother, Steve Johnson.

 

Survivors include his wife, Gloria J. Johnson of Conyers; former wife, Ponda Hunt also of Conyers; daughters and sons-in-law, Charity Johnson of Conyers, Rachelle and Joey Schick of Banks County, Misty and Russell Baker of Covington; sons and daughters-in-law, J.J. and Sheri Johnson of Bethlehem, Paul and Kris Overby of Conyers, Kenneth Gene Overby of Monticello; grandchildren, William Overby, David Johnson, Daniel Overby, Greg Hardy, Jeffrey Johnson, Cory Overby, Chesla Rodriguez, Hunter Myers, Katie Johnson, Dylan Allgood, Stephen Overby, J.T. Overby, Jerrid Allgood, T.J. Maxwell, Dalton Overby, Richie Scott, Kari Overby, Taryn Johnson; great-grandchildren, Tayten Johnson, Ty Johnson, Emylee Overby, Aaron Johnson, Adrian Johnson, Jaxyn Brown, Tucker Johnson, Rhilynn Rodriguez, Jordan Hardy; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Bob Moss of Conyers; sister-in-law, Polly Johnson of Conyers; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral Services for Mr. Johnson will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2014, 1:00 PM, at the Apostolic Community Church, 2094 Highway 81 South, in Covington, with Pastor Robert Nash and Rev. Donald (Joe) Patterson officiating.  Interment will follow in Shiloh Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, Covington, Monday, December 22, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
