James "Jim" Daniel Preston, Sr., of Covington, passed away March 20, 2017, at 78 years of age. A 1958 graduate of Newton County High School, Mr. Preston was the owner and operator of J & M Supply from the time it opened in 1974. He had been a faithful member of Porterdale Baptist Church since 1961, where he served as a Deacon Emeritus. In addition, Mr. Preston was a member of The Peachtree Woodturners and International Association of Pin Turners, Georgia Chapter. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Trellis and Cassie (Rice) Preston; and brother, Bill Preston.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, JoAnn Preston of Covington; daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Rusty Hart of Loganville, Stacy and Derck Whitsitt of Oxford, Tracy and Jim Shields of Columbus; son and daughter-in-law, James "Danny", Jr., and Denise Preston of Greensbobo; grandchildren, Matthew and Brooke Hart, Morgan Whitsitt, Madison Whitsitt, Joanna and Edwin Stanislawski, Andrew Shields, Christy and Brent Bellman, Daniel Preston, III, Greg Preston, Holly and Charlie Beaubien, Johnny Heintschel; great-grandchildren, Harrison, Rileigh, Natalie, Addy, Henry, Hattie; sister, Annette McGiboney; aunt, Doris Fuller; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service for Mr. Preston will be held Wednesday, March 22, 2017, 3:00 PM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 1215 Access Road, in Covington, with Rev. Darrell Huckaby officiating. Friends may visit with the family Tuesday, March 21, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
