Loy Jay Groves of Social Circle passed away January 9, 2017, at 84 years of age. A member of Social Circle United Methodist Church, Mr. Groves proudly served in the U.S. Marines in Korea. He worked for 30 years at NEPCO. in Social Circle and was very active on Boy Scouts, starting a troop in Blairsville. Mr. Groves was a member of the Social Circle Lions Club, enjoyed playing golf, traveling, fishing, and woodworking. In addition he was an avid GA Bulldog fan. Mr. Groves was preceded in death by his parents, Verlin and Jessie (Sampson) Groves; sister, Mary Weaver; brothers, Ray Groves, Tom Groves, and Grady Groves.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Vivian Groves; daughter, Vicki Stewart of Jacksonville Beach, FL; son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Robbie Groves of Social Circle; grandchildren, Stephanie Stewart, Rebecca Stewart, Brianna Groves, Nathan Maddux, Roxanna Maddux; great-grandchildren, Austin Rider, Logan Rider, Mirren Kaley-Maddux; sister, Lorene Bryant of Blairsville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Mona Groves of Ramona, CA, Jack and Mary Groves of Monroe; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Services for Mr. Groves will be held Thursday, January 12, 2017, 2:00 PM, at Social Circle United Methodist Church, 261 S. Cherokee Road, Social Circle, with Rev. Kathy Morris and Rev. Jeff Clegg officiating. Interment will follow in Social Circle City Cemetery. A reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the committal service. Friends may visit with the family at the church prior to the service on Thursday, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Social Circle United Methodist Church Building Fund.
