Mr. Jeff H. “Mutt” Hiott, Jr. of Mansfield, passed away March 13, 2014, at the age of 89. He was the owner of Auto Battery & Ignition Co. in Atlanta where, until a few weeks ago, he had worked since he was 13 years old. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. Mr. Mutt was raised in Confederate Avenue Baptist Church and was an active member until six years ago when he and Lorene joined Mansfield Baptist Church. He was known as the “Candy Man” and carried a pocket of candy wherever he went. Mr. Mutt and Lorene were regular Saturday night diners at Buckners in Jackson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff, Sr. and Sadie Hiott.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 ½ years, Lorene; daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia Carter of Conyers, Jenny and Steve Wells of Florence, KY, Michelle and Joey Miller of Conyers; grandchildren, Steve Carter and his wife Beth, Mark Carter, Justin Wells, Amanda Wells, Kim Causby and her husband Kevin, Katie Wilson; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Liam, Connor, Kyle; sister, Barbara Watson of Clarkesville; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Mutt will be held at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, March 16, 2014, at Mansfield Baptist Church, with Dr. Jeff Perkins officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, Saturday, March 15, from 2:00 – 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 – 8:00 P.M.
