Clara Gaynell Doggett, of Covington, passed away March 8, 2014, at the age of 94. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed cooking, shopping, exploring and spending time with them during the holidays. She also loved her two dogs that were her constant companions. Mrs. Doggett was a wonderful Christian woman and a great example to other Christian women. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Covington for many years and a recent member of the First Baptist Church in Covington. During the war she was a welder on ships in Brunswick, Georgia. She then worked as an Atlanta Police Crossing Guard before going to work for Arrow Shirts as a quality control person. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Butch Doggett; daughter, Judy Doggett Gaylor; parents, Clara (Hardegree) and James T. White; sisters, Lois Bailey, Ellen Bentley; brothers, Bill White, Clifford White, Clarence White, Crawford White, Earnest White, Bud White.
Survivors include her son-in-law, Emmett G. Gaylor; granddaughters, Kimberly and John P. O’Brien, Kristen Gaylor, all of Covington; great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Tryna O'Brien, of Snellville, Tyler Kennedy, of Covington, Colin O'Brien of St. Bernard, LA, Katelynn Grace O'Brien of Covington; sisters and brother-in-law, Betty and Jerry Cox, Sue Mitchell, all of Conyers; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Doggett will be held Wednesday, March 12, 2014, 10:00 AM, at the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home, 3134 Floyd Street, in Covington, with Rev. Reese Sanders officiating, and interment following in Lawnwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday, March 11, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM.
